Because without religion we aren't powerhungry, animalistic, territorial predators who try to squeeze out the biggest gains possible from other people.

Religion is just an excuse for it. We still sort ourselves into ranks and act herd-like.

why do atheist have to turn this into a religion is bad thread. look people can be bad regardless of what group they are in. being christian or Islamic or Jewish doesn't mean people won't be bad. striving to be as good as God doesn't mean people can or will be as good as God.

i've meet good and bad people from religions and atheists. but look people he had a bad time at his church doesn mean hes questioning his faith or wants you to. its terrible you all see this as a chance to push your agenda.

I hope you can find a better church op. I am a christian, though I don't go to church I found it too hard to do with my ADHD. I know of some pastors who are very judgmental, like they won't talk to smokers because smokers are sinners etc. they judge everyone for everything, but its not pastor or christian that makes them do that they were judgemental to begin with. well actually his wife was judgmental he came from a nice family but she turned him to be like her. many others are nice and not judgmental.

I hope you feel better. hugs.

Just to say, I am not an atheist by any means, quite the contrary, having a belief in God that has resulted in religion becoming a special interest along with multiple readings of the Bible, to the extent I can see how religion and the Bible are not compatible.
Bit like you really, a Christian who doesn't go to church.
My belief about religions are that they are pretty much sent along the wrong path by the Devil, will be interesting to see if any religions warn their flock not to worship the "New World Order" when it comes, and any who say to do what the Two Witnesses of Zechariah and Revelation tell them.
More likely all religions will be amongst those who rejoice when they are killed.
Pope after Pope calls for the "New World Order", so you can tell they will all be receiving the mark of the Beast when it comes.

Hey can we stay on topic please, I don't have problem talking about religion but thats obviously a huge flame war waiting to happen and its not my goal to get this thread locked. If you want to talk about religion, please create another thread. If you want to talk about what happened in a way thats constructive such as I screwed up or the church is judgmental than thats welcome.

I say this with respect, I don't mind atheist or humanist beliefs. It just isn't what I created this thread for.

Thank you,

Point of information: I am not an atheist; I just hate religion.

How are things going for you, dcj123?

I have unfortunately been hurt by people in church settings myself. I know how much it hurts to be rejected in a place where you expect more from the people. People are people, though. And it sounds like these people you were with were not in any way "acting" like Christians. I shouldn't have to use the word "acting"; it shouldn't have anything to do with "acting" but I don't know how else to say it.

I agree with a lot of what Smudge says.

You don't need church to have a spiritual relationship with God.

I went to church on and off in the past, and suffice to say it never became a lasting thing because I too experienced the cultish behavior that you describe. It's like the alarm go off and they all go synchronously into hive-mind mode to expel the outside threat to their consensus-tyrrany. It's creepy! But above all it's sad, because among the church goers are also individuals who are truly nice people who just get caught up in the whole thing and play along with it in order not to be ostracized from the community.

I know atheists who exemplify Christ more than many self-professed Christians. 9 out of 10 pastors are control freaks, hypocrites and psychopaths, because these people weasel themselves into positions where they can abuse vulnerable people.

Carl Jung is attributed to have said that 'God isn't something I believe in. God is something I just know." [It's something like that, anyway.] As for me personally, I'm not overly fond of church because of how loud and busy it can get and because of all the people and crowds and elderly people trying to hug me. I'm more of a 'stay at home and think about life, the universe, and everything' sort of girl.
