ASS-P needs a phone, that's all there is to it. He needs to give that SF guy his number. That will facilitate the success found in them meeting in the first place.

There's usually too many people at the shelter for shelter staff to keep track of one person--even if their intentions are honorable.

Many times, their intentions are neutral--they really don't give a damn. They probably won't bother searching the shelter roster for ASS-P's name and room number or whatever.

You could open up Notepad or Microsoft Word (or any application like that) and then when you're ready to type it up, just copy and paste it into the WP post.

How to copy and paste is - Hold down the CTRL key and the A key at the same time. This will select every word on the screen. Then, hold down CTRL key and the C key at the same time. This will copy the selected post. When you're in the WP post screen, just hold down the CTRL key and the P key. This will pate the copied words into the post.

Just to clear up any confusion, here are the facts:

1. I have arranged for someone in SF to meet ASS-P on Dec. 14 and take him to the orientation. This person is a very busy person but has showed interest in helping ASS-P with this.

2. Yesterday, ASS-P urgently asked if he could meet this person before that date. He specifically asked to meet the next day and I said I don't know if that would be possible but I would ask him to meet ASAP. This person doesn't come online all that much and sometimes it takes a second email for him to reply. My emails actually weren't going through yesterday, as it seems his inbox was full.

3. 24 hours on, I haven't heard back from the SF person. That doesn't mean the person won't get back in touch, it just means it may be another day or two. They often don't reply right away.

Since ASS-P was saying that I said things that I did not, I wanted to explain the facts of the matter. Walter has acknowledged this in private conversation but I wanted it acknowledged on the forum.

So you can keep your friendship with this person intact, I would warn them that giving him a phone # or other immediate-access way to contact him/her may result in him constantly calling - he asks for assistance on this board multiple times weekly although he's never gotten anyone from here to agree to be his "shoulder" or whatever he wants.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just pointing out that your friend may want to be very cautious about something like giving him a phone # - already a boundary has been crossed because your friend was willing to meet him Dec. 14th and not only did he want to meet the person (who is giving of their time freely) SOONER but the very next day and then came here claiming the person didn't show when there was no agreement in place other than for Dec. 14th.

I actually offered him hep months ago. I could make a phone call and get him in these apartments across the main highway here in my town that charge on a sliding scaled based on your social security or disability income. Water is included and the only thing you'd pay is power and it's not much. They have appliances and everything. There is a bus service for disabled and elderly in town and he could get food stamps and he wood be perfectly fine. I even offered a bus ticket here. He said he wouldn't know anyone here and he just needed money.

Makes you wonder doesn't it.

I hope ASS-P reads your post and re-considers it, if it's still available.

If you Google Map where the area where he is now (e.g. Market St.), it's fairly run-down in certain areas; as his recent post of mugging suggests and also the constant stealing of anything that is not strapped to his body. A big help/start would be going to a town where the fear or even possibility of being mugged/having things stolen is not there.

Market Street is very urban....you have to be careful there.

The Tenderloin and the Mission District are somewhat seedy areas.

But, for the most part, they are not any more dangerous than many inner-city areas which are not blatantly "projects" or "ghettoes."

Yes, I've been there.

It isn't. I'm sure there are available apartments every few months but I am not calling Lora to get him in. He turned it down outright when I offered it, because he doesn't know anybody here. It's not just that he already turned it down and I have no interest in trying to talk someone into accepting my help or anything from me if they don't want it, but my husband had a stroke in October and all our money and all my time and effort is going to him and his recovery.

It just seemed to me that he is only wanting people to send him money or items and isn't interested in anything else, no matter how ideal it may be. Which gives me pause.

Oh Man, Olive Oil!

How bad was the stroke? Does he have permanent damage as a result? He's not an old guy.

Moderate I suppose you would say. We found out recently that he had two strokes in two different areas, the worst one being the brain stem. The l vertebral art is completely occluded. He has balance issues and trouble walking and using his leg and arm on that side. His face and speech are fine, as is his mental status. He has double vision and headaches too. The neuro said hopefully he will be back to 100% in a year, but he's bored as can be right now, of course he's not working, and he's going to physical therapy twice a week. He can't drive, and he's pretty unsteady on his feet. This happened suddenly when he woke up to go to work at the end of October. Bad headache but he was going about his normal morning routine. Coffee, computer, etc. Within 30 mins from the time he got up he couldn't walk. I had to convince him he was having a stroke and make him go to the hospital. He was in for three weeks and for the first week it was touch and go. Scariest time of my life. And he's 53.

Sorry to hijack the thread, just answering Krafties questions. There is a thread about it on the haven if you want to talk about it with me Krafties, or just message me on facebook, I'll probably see that a lot sooner.

...I am , of course , very sorry that that happened to OOM and especially to her husband ~ However , the " offer " she speaks of , months back , was never even fully expressed to me , IIRC , before OOM withdrew it !
She had said something in PMs that were never sent in complete form/s to me before she had changed her mind .
I really do not know about going 1,500 miles to somewhere com1pletely new to me ~ I don't rule it out 100% , however , it is a big step .
I did , BTW , do a lot of asking for help THAT DTID INVOLVE ANY ASKI)NG FOR MONEY OR GIFTS WHATSOEVER ! , such as the desire for " a ri0de and a shoulder " to CCSF testing , etc. :( , and help in the applications thereof...I never received any .
Meanwhile OOM (and others) obsess over accusing " You asked for money ! " . Even when I didn't .
Shows ya somethin' , don't it  ?

ASS-P, that ship has sailed. OOM has her hands full.

Whatever the "social services" problem you were having that you spoke about (in relation to getting a place to stay), start working on fixing that. You need to be in a board and care ideally and once you get a place to stay you can start working on something else.

I think ASS-P would actually get along pretty well with at least some college students---especially those who are into comic books.

Well at a minimum you left out the fact that he wasn't actually scheduled to meet you but I would be scared too if I was hoping for some kind of contact the next day so whatever feeling you had towards this was normal actually.

How do you feel about this person now, he evidently did try and make contact. Did you ever get the note? How did the note make you feel?
