What I find interesting is that you pick and choose which questions you'll answer but you understood immediately what Tobes was saying.

As he asked, so will I - what are you saying to people about needing care and to whom are you saying it?

Did you ask to speak to a social worker when you were in the emergency room?

I will wait for the answers.

I'm sorry you going through this. Did you leave the hospital? If not, tell them you very badly need help.

ASS-P, please listen to everyone. We wouldn't be typing in your threads if we didn't want the best for you. We're just trying to help someone who is in a really bad way but we also need your help as well, since we can't do much online.

That's why we're encouraging you to ask whoever you can about getting into a long-term care home. Whether that's a nursing home, SRO (at worst) or another place. We just want you out of shelters.

To ask another question...

1. Are you happy living like this?

Where are you now, ASS-P? Do you have any prospects for this night?

I hope ASS-P can find some use of the 311 help number [homeless services on menu]. there comes a point where one has to be willing to surrender one's freedom of movement in order to survive in decent health. a hard choice, I know.

...Right this moment , I am in a hospital , where I am getting treatment related to the weight-ballooning caused by my Congestive Heart Failure , which I certainly have sought help for (Did I not spell that out ? Did I have to ?) in the past , + more of my situations . Yes , obviously , it removes me from the immediate depleted supplies and lack of bed-rest due to shelter schedules situation and it is certainly , a needed help but it presumably can,t last long .
As far as what I might do afterwards , I don,t know and I really wuld have to bump heads with people other than hospital people , the only people I,ve had contact with since coming inside . I will have to avail myself of hospital-supplied shoes and pants to have anything on when I leave .
It seems that , again , the discussion of me recently has been dominated by the idea that : a home : situations are available this moment (and are desireable) , and are begging me tome in right this moment ! for me to do
This is , again , NOT TRUE ! :x I can;
,t say what I might do , or , certainly , might be available to me , next week or whatever ! :o

Again, the next person who comes to your room for anything, say "I need to talk to the social worker about a place to stay when i get out of here."

Interesting ...

Opinions?

This is something I've discussed with my mother, as we are genuinely concerned for him. (We live in California, and my mom is capable of making phone calls, whereas I'm not.)

But our honest feeling is that it's not our place to take away ASS-P's right to make his own life choices. I do wish that Social Services would be more 'aggressive' in not allowing a severely disabled person to remain homeless. But the laws of this country protect the rights of the mentally ill, and ASS-P clearly does not want to be committed into the system, so my own feeling on this issue is to defer to the decisions of Social Services, and of ASS-P himself.

It's a difficult issue, and hard for all of us to watch someone suffering, and refusing to get the help he needs. But in my heart I believe it has to be his own decision, and all we can do is encourage him to make the responsible choice.

I think what you've said is very wise, Ashariel, and very true.

Also: very perceptive.

ASS-P values his independence very much--maybe a little too much. But it's his choice.

Yes, we did. And we're all very glad to know you're safe for the moment, and at least getting short-term care.

Did you not read the many replies in this thread, explicitly asking what steps you are taking toward finding a long-term solution? Your silence on this matter speaks volumes.

Ask to talk to a social worker. Tell us what they say, and specifically what road blocks you're encountering, in trying to get into a better situation. We can't help you unless we know the details.

What sort of treatment are they giving for the weight gain? Will it help with the diarrhea that you said was related to your heart? And why was there blood coming from your foot? How long do you think they will keep you in?

I know you're in the hospital. ASS-P. I'm talking about the future.

If you are offered some place that gives you independence and takes half your SSDI money, I'd take it.

...Iwant to lle down,go to sleep . maybe enjoy a little CNN riot coverage  , but , briefly , this morning I had a social worker come/in and

indicate thhat all that was being thought of for me when I got out was a bed in the same shelter where I was ! Where someone sleeping next to me kept threatening me and calling me n****r and fa***t :( and whom I suspect of having stolen the stuff the last time  . There is FAR , FAR , less ready TV show-type : help : than you think there is !

I understand your dilemma, ASS-P. And I believe what you say.

I just wish you could convince a social worker to put you in a place for people with chronic diseases.

I wish you could, maybe, cut your hair and shave (you're going to lambaste me for this!) and play a little nice.

It's possible they think you're just "shelter material." You want to convince them otherwise.
