Was it Anime Overload? That one tends to happen around that time. Their annual year end convention is Ikkicon, which I've been to twice. One that happens in Round Rock, the doorstep of Austin, is Chibi Ushicon.

This is advice I can accept unlike Piobaire's which is just personal attacks in disguise.

Honestly, I don't remember the name... but wow, that's a lot of cons for one city. 8O I wish my area had that many.

Austin and its surrounding area is very different as far as Texas goes. Ever watched the movie Dazed and Confused? :p

Where do you live in Finland? The only Finnish cities I can name are Helsinki and Espoo off the top of my head.

Turku, too.

Then again, I don’t know that second city you mentioned.

Nope, never heard of it.

Fortunately near a big city by Finnish standards, but it only has a convention or two every few years or so and the small town where I live has never had any as far as I know. Usually when I go to a convention it's a two to three hour bus ride, sometimes more.

It's set in Austin in 1976. Obviously, things have changed since then but some parts of Austin still look like they did in the movie.

Are Finnish cities usually not very large?
What is it like living where you live? I have to drive pretty much everywhere and it can be a pain to do so.

When it comes to the amount of population, no. Our capital, which has the most people, has about 642 000 inhabitants. If you count in the population of the cities near it that make the capital area the amount goes a bit over million, but not much and in order to get that you really need to add the people of three other cities to the capital's amount. So yeah, Helsinki, the biggest city, is actually just a little harbor town if you think about it in the whole world's scale. :D

Okay, I guess. I've only lived in three places in my life and the two latest are only a few hundred meters apart from each other. When I still lived with my parents I had no way to move around since I can't get a license and the closest bus stop (that had something else than a school bus) was five kilometers away, so every time I wanted to go somewhere I didn't just need a permission from my parents, I also needed a ride... that's also the reason I moved out as early as I did. Even if I had gotten a job quick back then I wouldn't have been able to go to work since there was no tranportation. My current location on the other hand has a... well, let's just say good enough public transportation.

We're going seriously off topic though. Should we just move this to PMs?

Austin, actually, has about the same amount of people as Helsinki. It's metropolitan area might be a bit larger in population, though.

And it is the capital of Texas, like Helsinki is the capital of Finland.

And it seems to get larger with every passing year.

Austin is also home to The Sword while Helsinki is home to Amorphis.

Oops! I guess so but for the sake of the topic, I wonder how I can be hopeful that there are still single gothic and alternative girls around?

The kind of women my parents and my grandmother tried to set me up with were hyper religious as well as had mental maturity way below their physical ages. I could be with someone who was balanced in her religion but being expected to be a Christian or else that means I have no morals is a deal breaker for me.

Take it from a guy who has dated "goth" women there is a A LOT of baggage. It's hard to have a healthy relationship because so much of their identity is not being happy. They get mad when things don't suck it's odd.

At the time I was part of that culture but actuly making friends in it made me realize I was not. These people are just not growing all they want to do is wallow.

Also most of these girls grow out of it. Don't plan on something long term.
