It doesn't really matter any more, let's just let this thread die now.

What is wrong with a short sleeve shirt, shorts and flip flops, what is so shocking about it...seems like pretty normal attire for warm weather.

At least you grew up in a nice area with few problems. So there's that. I think I would rather be innocent than jaded.

It's amusing reading old geezers who happily bomb kids in foreign countries to have cheap petrol for their suvs complaining about teenagers who sometimes get drunk... :3

What do you mean?

Human tendency to point fingers at weaker groups and discussing how 'bad' they are. For some reasons, they never point at themselves and wonder "have we became more out of control these days"? :3

What's sad though, this 'finger pointing' seems to be not only inherent to humans, it's also very profitable...

I wondered the same thing. I think the idea is that it was raining but she didn't have an umbrella, closed-toe shoes, or rain attire? I have to be honest. I'm a grown adult and I don't own an umbrella or a mac. Haven't had either since I was a little girl. I just wing it when it comes to weather. If I get wet, I get wet. My daughter is the same way. She had umbrellas when she was really little but they normally got lost at school. She'll occasionally wear a hood if it's raining but that's about it.

I wonder how old the girl was in this story, or if the family had a history of not providing for their kids?

I would guess that the reason they were shocked was because it was unprofessional attire. School is like a prelude to work and real-life(or at least that's what it's advertised as where I lived). No one in their right mind would go to work in a short-sleeve shirt, shorts(I'm assuming short-shorts), and flip-flops. They may also still be living in the mindset where their parents(usually the father) would not let them even walk to the grocery store in that attire. They could be old-fashioned and think that attire is seen as "low-class" or "trashy" but these are all just guesses. Where I live I see it all the time so that would be normal but for other places not so much.

I think teenagers have always been a bit out of control. I was out of control even though my friends were not. I got drunk when I was 14. I started popping pills when I was 14 as well. I also had a bit of an alcohol problem as a teen. I stole alcohol a lot. I also smoked a lot of weed even though I didn't start doing that until I was 17. My parents know about my stuff though. When I was 18 I did ecstasy for the first time and it was great. I think I had problems as a teenager. My sister and brother are not as troubled as I was.

I was an embarrassment when I was a teenager. I was so innocent I thought alcohol was just something adults drank responsibly, and I knew smoking was bad so I didn't smoke (I did try it when I was 12 but I didn't carry it on), and I knew barely anything about drugs. All I did was get stupid embarrassing obsessions with men that made me look like a stalker, but I seemed to have the mind of an 8-year-old.

I was not a typical teenager at all. I was just a stupid wimpy dork that completely missed out on sex, drugs and rock and roll. That may sound good but it isn't. It's boring and is the life of a severely disabled teenager with downs syndrome or something.

Welcome to the naive club. This is why I try to be very cynical now, just to counter my tendency to be naive. While it does make people get butt hurt easily, it protects me from at least some disappointments.

And I don't understand why you think your teenage years were bad? You were obsessed with men, and you have your dream bf now. I was obsessed with computers and staying away from people, and now I have a computer and happily living alone. So we both have now what our teenage selves wanted. What's wrong with it? :3

I was out of control when I was a teenager. I could likely be best described as having a death wish in those years because I didn't care for my own well being and endangered others with my thrill seeking behavior. Fortunately, I met my ex wife and she put me on a better path in life.

Well what we're doing now is a mature sort of life to have as adults, but aren't teenagers supposed to be into parties, sex, drugs and rock and roll? (Not literally rock and roll but you know what I mean; all that teenage stuff). It's like I'd missed out and was a loner.
Even my Aspie brother went through that stage (he didn't do drugs but he stayed out a lot with friends). My non-Aspie cousin, also a wimpy dork like me, still got boyfriends as a teenager even though she was painfully shy and didnt drink or do drugs.

Yes but that's the norm among teenagers. That or having at least have a few decent friends and to hang out with, go to the mall, the movies, sleepovers, etc. Me, I was a loner sitting in my room with no friends and feeling isolated and depressed. I found one friend when I was 16 but she fell out with me at 17, and I met some people at college but they ended up bullying me because they were immature and chavvy.
