Damaged car unsure what to do stressing out

You’ll likely find that the body work is more money than it’s worth.

I had both bumpers replaced and painted on my 2013 Dodge Dart, paid for by insurance. I think the bill came to something like $3800. The car brand new listed 18k but I bought it new for 12k. No way 2 plastic numbers and some paint are worth 1/3 the price of the car - to me - so if insurance wasn’t paying I’d have just left it.

Vehicles cost less where you live and depreciate faster due to rust. I bet the repair estimate ends up being something like 50% or more of the current value of the entire car. Most likely not worth doing. Meh, I’d just drive it for as many years as it will last.

That's what I figure if its more then 3,500 or so Ill just touch it up with some diy stuff and get something like bondo to reattach that at least to the front bumper. I paid 8000 or so for my jeep used, but it had a little rust damage to some of the paint even then, that the guy touched up with paint. if the bumper and fender end up being too much guess i'll drive the jeep for a bit longer while I look for another car, for several months to a year or two down the road while I save up I guess if worse comes to worse

Keep in mind, the parts cost more to purchase as replacements and you're also paying for materials and labour. People seem to not really consider what they're purchasing and just think of it the way you're framing it (well, it's x% of the car and the car costs y).

I know besides what the part cost say it was 70-200 for my model of jeep when I googled the price of a fender for it. There's also the cost of labor and paint if I take it to the body shop. If its gonna drain my bank account completely when I go to do it come spring, probably about the time I get my tax return I don't see the point in doing it though

Just put some stickers on it.. monster claw marks, maybe a bandaid or bullet holes. Depends on what suits the damage.

Jeep compass? Sounds a lot better than my car and I have full insurance. Not sure what you are playing Russian roulette for given you have a job and probably could have afforded insurance.

You have no choice, take a short-term loan from i) parents/family OR ii) bank or other lending institution,

Cut back on movies/alcohol/shopping or other expenditure for a while till you pay it back

I have limited tort insurance, as when i got my car a year or so ago, full tort would havve costed too much. I hadn't thought of getting full tort til i found full time employment really. I guess i'll be really budgeting for the winter and saving what I can so when I get my tax refund I can hopefully have enough for however much the auto body shop's estimate will be. I'll probably wait til I get my tax refund too for that extra little bit of cash. I guess if worse comes to worse I'll drive it around while I save up more and maybe trade it in for a smaller cheaper used vehicle down the road
