How do I make friends here without being controversial?

I could say, I've felt I've been ignored but, not from anyone on here since, I've recently returned to this portal on the net as, I've been away in chaotic NT world found on Orkut.Well, I'm glad to be here and I'm not worried if a thread of mine goes un-noticed not everyone see everything but, we all try though..

I like you. And I am highly motivated and hard-working. I do not, nor have I ever, smoked pot and I'm sure not lazy. So, not true Tim_Tex. Many on Wrong Planet are tremendously 'successful' (whatever that definition is) and DO try very hard. I try hard every day and, in many ways, I am grateful I am autistic! This is my strength. You're not alone, Tim.

I have as few friends on WP as I do in real life.

And there's nothing wrong with video games, if you have very good time management skills.

so tim, just a question.

how many people have you tried to make friends with here? how many pm's have you sent to people trying to initiate a conversation with someone you found interesting? if you have tried that and have no results, then i find that surprising. i would say keep trying. there are tons of people on this board, and if i can find people to talk to and make friends with in the short time that i have been here, then i am certain that you can too. :)
mind you, i can count them on one hand, but i prefer it that way.

I have tried it with quite a few, but oftentimes, correspondences last 2-3 posts, and that's it. Not saying that's always the case, but that's the most common scenario--and this is with *me* making the first move.

Keep in mind that standards for friends are different than those for romantic partners.

(BTW, I dropped all but two of the criteria).

An Ig-no-RANT

TO ALL WHO ARE IGNORED

I notice you. I just do not always respond. No news is good news. I have mentioned Tim_Tex in a post I did in :"The Worst Book I Ever Read" when I answered Codarac who asked me if I dissed heidegger because he was a nazi. I responded that Tim_Tex is in no way like martin h. I responded to T_T in his thread about wanting to leave WP. You are a nice young man T_T.

I have had better vibes with those more my own age. I am not into the young people's interests. I grew up long before computers, Japanese cartooning, Simpsons, video games, South Park, IPods. My interests are of a literary bent, philosophy, and keys. Timeless, classic stuff. I would have more in common with Marie Curie, Houdini, Einstein, even Temple Grandin (Dx). These people grew up without computers and are mostly Aspie in inclination.

Computers are a tool. I see them as a way to connect with those like me. I only met one (young) Aspie in my whole life.

Not everyone notices me either. BUT REST ASSURED, I READ YOU.

I do want more people to notice me, though.

I guess it must be common to feel ignored, at least that's what I gather from these few posts. I have to admit, there are times that I feel very ignored, or that I must be some kind of unintentional serial threadkiller. It leaves me wondering if I'm saying something inappropriate, or something. It feels very much the same as when I try to socialize IRL.

It's like if you don't talk about what everyone else wants to talk about, you get ignored.

Why don't you start your own thread focused around your own interests, like Geology, foreign languages/cultures, etc.? You probably wouldn't have a tough time finding people interested.

Will make a note of that. But in the past, some of the threads regarding these topics get very few replies, or none at all.

I feel ignored and invisible and always have done. My family, friends, college mates, etc. :(

Still Appreciating Tim Topic

Tim_Tex, could you start a thread like the Dino-Aspie Ex-Cafe thing for young people around your own age and interests? I go there for some interesting intellectual and humorous conversation :study:
