oh, RiverOtter! How devastating. Your friend and you had to make that decision to let your friend go. That is so beautiful, Merle! That makes me feel better about all the cats I've lost. I always imagine them in this beautiful garden, where they can play and nap all day.

I'm very sorry to hear about your cat. This reminds me about last April when my dog Caesar died at the age of 13. He had problems with his kidneys which got worse during the last few weeks of his life. He also had, during the last few years, occasional seizures which were scary. He would get them when he would get excited or upset. I use to dread witnessing these seizures. He use to get a lot of them while going to the vet in the car. The vet never really figured out the cause of these seizures. He did not have epilsey or anything like that. The vet at one point thought it was his heart doing it but it was not.

I'm really sorry, riverotter, she looks lovely and losing a cat is terrible.

The saddest I've ever been was when my darling Potche was hit by a car, but I got over it eventually, so you will be ok, but I grieve with you at the moment. *hugs*

I am sorry for your loss, riverotter.

Seeing that picture of yours that you showed of your cat, it really reminded me of my own who that cat sorta looks like. It gave me tears in my eyes. The same posture, the same look.

My cat died two years ago. I had to put him to sleep because he had intestinal cancer. He got real skinny, and during the last two weeks of his life, he staggered about. And he slept a lot. But oddly enough, and this I will never forget, he looked pretty lively during the final trip to the vet. He was looking all about and was super interested in the scenes going by through the car windows. He was even interested in stuff at the vet's. I don't know why he became lively, but maybe he knew his suffering was nearly over? I don't know. But I hope I will get to see him again in Heaven, and not just as ashes in an urn on my desk. I still miss him, he was my special kitty.

My beloved little kitty Action!cat had a seizure in my bed early this morning. I don't know why I woke up right before it started, but she had a full tonic-clonic seizure and I took her to the emergency vet, where she continued to seize and I knew it was time to let her go.
She was only about 11 years old (we think) but had some health problems and I knew a few months ago that she wouldn't live a full long cat life.
This was my favorite cat ever. She was so sweet and right now she would be sitting on the armrest of my computer chair if she were still here. I miss her so bad already.
I wish I had a better picture of her, but this is the best I can find right now.

riverotter, that must have been terrible to watch your little kitty seize and die. I'm sorry for your loss.
From personal experience, I'm not going to lie, losing a pet of ANY kind is devastating if you loved them...and by your post, I can tell that you did love your kitty very much.
Some people find that getting another pet can be helpful when losing one, and some others find that getting another pet will be too hard because they will feel like they are replacing their previous pet.
What are you going to do? Are you going to get another cat or not just yet?

Sometimes when i've lost a pet, I've made a headstone for them and layed it ontop of the place where they were burried. Did you burry your kitty? If so, this might be something that you'd like to try but I know that for many people it would be too hard, so your choice.
If she wasn't burried, maybe you could write her a card or letter telling her that you'll miss her and whatever else you want to write and burry that in her memory...perhaps in her favourite spot in the garden or yard (if you have one).

Anyway, make sure that you take care of yourself. Treat yourself to something you enjoy and most importantly, grieve.

Awwww, the poor baby. To me losing an animal is like losing a young child. It'll defanitly be hard the next few weeks but think of how happy your cat must be to no longer be in that pain she was in that day. I'm sure she is in a better place whether it be heaven, another demsion, etc.
