i'm sorry it was meant in good humour, I didn't mean to hurt or offend you.

it was mainly in reference to the 70's haircut

spudnik, If you're reading this, partner, I'd hate like hell to see you leave.

I like what you've got to say.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Dammit, why did it have to be Spudnik to be the one to leave? :x

I'm sure spudnik will be back.

In the meantime, Saintetienne - well done. It takes a lot of guts to apologize - hats off to you.

Haven't any of you noticed that Spudnik is not responding to your posts?

It's true that Spudnik isn't responding but if he does come back, this is probably going to be the first place he'll look.

In any case, this is a great example of how a little misunderstanding can damage a forum.

Spudnik posted a photo and described himself as having long hair
Saintetienne made a comment that he felt was in keeping with Spudnik's original comment

To be honest, the comment, while a little off the wall, was not outrageously offensive.

Spudnik took the comment in the wrong way (which might be normal for many of us - though it's clear that some readers at least, saw it as a bit of humor - not intended to offend).

Spudnik got his photo removed by moderators and started this thread to complain - and to run away.

Saintetienne has just apologised - which I admit takes guts - and honour.

The mess should be cleared up now - if Spudnik would care to rejoin us.

In the meantime though, we have an interesting thread about the right and wrong things to do - and how to fix them.

Both parties did right and wrong things - but the best thing is to move on. If Spudnik were to run away without ever reading this thread, he'd miss out on learning some important things - and would probably find himself in a similar situation in the future on a different forum.

I'm quite new here, so I don't know the dynamics of this community yet, but... is it normal for a three-thousand posts veteran to leave the community because of a single comment like that? I mean, is it a common case here? :?:

No ... not common at all ...

Why even post a good-bye if you know you'll never read the replies?

It is fairly common for a large poster to say goodbye and then leave ... but be back in a day or so.

Thanks, Fnord... that's a relief. I'm somewhat dry now and then, and with my lack of English skills, it occasionally gets worse; I'd hate to have to bit my tongue too much, but I'd also hate to cause such reactions because of a mere slip.

In any case, it always puzzles me when these things happen. It's one thing to leave the forum (in the sense of merely calling it a day and logging off) to blow some steam, but it's entirely different, and largely illogical as far as I can see, to abandon a forum of thousands of good members who can help you and teach you so many things, just because one of them, in a single message, didn't do that.

I always remember this quote by Rabindranath Tagore: “If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you'll also miss the stars”.

This is being blown waaaay out of proportion. It was tactless and rude, yes, but no harm was intended.

I mean, come on. My brother said I looked like a rat the other day.
