Invite your mother to a group therapy session with yourself and your sister. Say that it is "family counselling". The therapist can point out her idiosyncratic behaviour, and then perhaps she will continue on her own.

My sister and I do not attend group therapy sessions. In fact, my sister sees a therapist through our city's public health system and I have been seeing my therapist through VR services provided through the State Of Oregon.

However, if my sister or I try to talk to our mom about this, she may say something like:

"Oh...there's nothing wrong with me."

"It's just going to be a waste of time."

"You're both overreacting."

"Making me see a therapist is a just a way of making yourselves feel good."

My sister and I are just concerned about our mother's behavior.

My mom has been giving me and my sister a hard time. She has gotten rough, rude, extremely judgmental, and very sarcastic. My sister and I don't know what to do and whenever our mom makes a mistake, she blames us for it.

My sister and I have been seeing therapists since last summer and we have been thinking of ways to convince our mother to see a therapist herself, so any advice that my sister and I can use would be much appreciated.

Maybe, your therapist could invite her to share her "objective observations" of your behavior. That way, she might not be defensive or feel threatened.

I survived (relatively?) a toxic mother myself. It isn't easy. Is there a way that you and your sister can live together and move away independently?

Can it really be called self harm if it’s not really harmful? More like self inflicted pain....

^^You inflict pain on yourself; harming yourself. My ex was a rape victim and also did it a lot. She hit herself on the head, her head against the wall, would hit herself with spoons and forks on her hands and so on. It's an addiction, often caused by self-hatred, not knowing where to vent certain negative emotions. It relieves emotional suffering a bit.

Am terribly sorry you are dealing with this, but I respect it and understand you suffer.

That is out of the question because my therapist specializes with clients who are on the spectrum.

Until my sister and I find ourselves suitable employment, then we are stuck with our mother.

Have you ever told your roommate you don't drink beer?
