Now I know what people meant in the past when they said they had shingles. Belated empathy for them. A favourite cousin has told me to go and get some leaves from the Kawa Kawa tree, make a tea with them and bathe the area with it (the shingles are just on one side of my body, so the upside is that I could and did get some sleep, laying on my unaffected side).

The KawaKawa tea is a Maori remedy, one of the medicinal plants they used prior to colonisation, and often those old practices are still very useful and work.

My only other bump in this rocky road of a week is that - horror of horrors - I have woken up (it's 6.45am) to find I'm out of coffee. This is probably a bigger shock to my body and mind than the shingles are, at this point of the day...

Memo to self - one thing at a time and just get through the day. May be the day four legs comes home to me.

Something nice: woke up many times during the night, to find one of my favourite neighbourhood cats cuddled up to my feet (which were cold) and he stayed with me all night long until the sun came up. The cat world is offering support, that's a great sign!

feeling a complete failure today -8

this morning i fell out with my girlfriend just when i thought we were starting to makes things work. she said i need to try and get myself sorted even though i tried explaining that autism is a lifelong thing and that things like engaging with people is the most difficult thing for me. she doesnt understand me but i dont know how to explain how im feeling

to make the day even crapper i lost my job at midday. apparently i wasnt doing my job properly so they let me go.

my lifes a mess sometimes i wonder why im even a part of this world. i had a lot about me but that was ages ago, ive nothing to offer thats even worthwhile anymore

im just kicking around like an old newspaper being tossed about by the wind

Four legs is home, we will sleep together in our bed tonight, something I feared at one stage would never happen again.
It's lovely to see him seeing me seeing him... he follows me from room to room. We both need an early night.

Yes, that's really good news, especially because he's already home and it's not even Saturday yet (the original time set for discharge, as I understand it). So it looks like a comprehensive recovery. Praise be to God and maybe now the shingles will say bye-bye, too!

B19,

OUCH! Shingles hurt! Thankfully, I've never had them, but I've heard from others how painful they can be.

How nice about the cat! They certainly do provide solace and companionship.

What you have heard (I am now aware of) is unfortunately accurate, IstominFan. Puss and I have had a very rough night in different ways. He has been vomiting, managed to hit a record number of targets so it is 5am, big clean up and laundry in progress, I had nausea already from the anti-viral tablets for the shingles, some but not all of the affected "shingled" parts currently feel as if they are on fire, and I feel as if I have the flu from hell, every muscle aches.

I have to update the vet later this morning, may have to readmit four legs if I or he or both of us get much worse. However we may both improve over the next few hours. Thanks for thinking of us. Support from WP members has really helped.
