I don't think you should feel bad for being white. Whites have committed a lot of brutality against their own kind, and the tribal issues in Africa between native Africans (for example) are not always kind or friendly or non-violent. The same goes for other ethnic groups; the Chinese, Koreans, Indians and so on.

Race and cultural issues are more complex than any of us can control. And you can't control the race you're born with.

Can you do anything for the minority groups in your area? Is it a racist area??

This guy has a very good point. Whites can be just as vulnerable to degradation and malignment and ostracism as any other racial group.

I often think the reason so many ''White Trash'' (and I despise the phrase, but just for the sake of argument) families are so looked down on is because they remind ''higher status'' whites that they are just as prey to social exclusion as any other group.

If you openly admit that you have inherited unearned privilege, you have already done more to help fix the system than most privileged people ever do. If you want to do even more, you can. No need to feel ashamed or guilty.

I would say now that it is more a matter of the dominant global culture of industrialisation and cultural homogenisation that we should all be terrified of; white, black, asian, whatever.

Aboriginal groups are still being forced off their land all over the world right now. You can always start helping and go and volunteer somewhere or raise awareness. Your race will become irrelavent with this kind of work. You'll just be a human being fighting for what's right.

I'm not responsible for the Empire, for Nazi Germany, for the Belgian colonisation of Africa, for the North American massacre of the Indians, for the Spanish colonisers' genocide of South American tribes and so on and so forth. I reject the privilege argument because I don't see being able to walk about in a Western country free of harassment or abuse as something I should feel 'lucky' for just because I'm white. I see it as a human right for all.

Well I am part native American but refuse to collect the benefits I am also Autistic nd do not collect or claim ssi or ssdi even though I might qualify I just work because I know I'm functional to do that and try and work around the difficulties and not use my disorder as a crutch. I also donate from time to time my recent donation was to the Tsunami victims in Japan before that Haiti and the victims of hurricane Katrina. I also donated blood to the victims of september eleventh.

You care a lot. Just do what you can with the compassion you already have. Stop blaming yourself and beating yourself up so much.

I do what I can but sometimes I don't think its enough though even if I were to take a bullet for the oppressed it might not be enough to make amends others have done or convince that I feel for the ones who have been oppressed even if it means me being oppressed myself. I just wih I could wipe the slate clean to make amends for the past that other caucasians have done.

I can sort of relate. I am very very white looking and some of my family is a lot... less white looking, and just within my own family I've seen vast differences in how I'm treated to how they're treated. That extends beyond my family to my friends and all of the POC I know and have known.

Ridiculous racists deny white privilege and I wonder how uncomfortable it must be for these very obviously angry people to keep insisting they aren't experiencing privilege and they ARE. NOT. RACIST. Then I remember that it's their own problem, and who gives a s**t if they're uncomfortable while they're willfully being part of the problem?

But you, you have an idea of exactly why your skin color implies something out of your control. You're actively non-racist, which actually does take some work. You've done everything you should ever be expected to do by just KNOWING there is racial tension. There is nothing more that is your social responsibility.

Anything further is BS, beyond being a good person, and being aware of what's going on around you, you don't owe anyone anything. You have nothing to feel guilty about. You do not have to let anyone make you feel bad and YOU NEVER SHOULD. You aren't stepping on anyone's toes by goddamn existing or being white or being a male. You aren't responsible for what has happened throughout history.

If someone tries to make you feel bad, tell them to f**k off. Seriously. Tell them to get f****d. No one has any right to make you feel bad for your ethnicity.

People who try to make you feel bad about your race (i.e. the colour of your skin or where you come from) are racists.

I'll say that again: these people are racists. They should be given no more respect than a black person should give a member of the National Front or the KKK, or a Jew should give Hamas, or a British Asian should give the BNP and so on and so forth.

Oh its not sappy at all. Also my presentation is logical--the statement that African American's wouldn't have existed if not for slavery has no basis whatsoever. I could also present the counter argument--that certain people of 'african descent' stopped existing, because of slaverys direct impact. Which i'm sure you're aware of.

Slavery brought them over, but it did not have to be the only method to accomplish that. I get your intent with the statement, just its not necessarily correct and has no basis.

Do many african american citizens thrive in the U.S.? Yep. But in my opinion is the result of societal progress--and slavery isn't even close to being a factor in that. Slavery even being seen as responsible for a mass transportation of people to point A to point B, is only the choice that happened--not what could've.

Ive spent a lot of my life in bad neighborhoods and as a result faced racism with death threats and being attacked just because I am white and they bring up slavery etc. When In school I would be bullied a lot of times just because Im white called white trash cracker honkey devil and told the reason why my skin turns red and sheds like a snake when im in the sun light too long is because Im a devil. I have told the teachers about the racism but they ignored it. There are only some people who are into that interracial stuff, i.e., mixing the races. Otherwise, there would be no more distinguishable races but only one single hodgepodge.

Yes, the state of affairs is sad and worrying. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about other people and their behavior. That doesn't mean, however, that I have to approve of it.

Well, it's a good thing that you recognize your white privilege and it's good that you recognize that racism is still a huge issue in society, but feeling guilty for your race doesn't help anybody. It doesn't stop racism from happening and it won't redeem you. Take a stand against racism, by all means, but don't beat yourself up for something that is outwith your control. You didn't choose to be the way that you are and you had no say in how you grew up. What's f****d up about white privilege is that it shouldn't be a privilege for anyone - nobody should be judged by their race, or their ethnic background. Nobody should be at a greater risk of being harmed or exploited because of their race. Everyone should benefit from these things, not just white people.

Sometimes thoughts of gathering by the masses and announcing an apology followed by performing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku would redeem the wrong doings that whites have done. But I would be considered extreme and taking things to far though but sometimes I think thats what it would have to take for such a slate to be wiped clean. I dont think I would go that far though but that is probably what it would take those constantly hateful to change their opinions of caucasians.

90% of black people are alive today because of all the technology introduced to them by Whites. Just think of that.

All the races have a will for domination - and some of them still express it today, far more cruelly than any White people ever did. Whites where just better at it.
