I'm the same way..very uncomfortable with Dr.'s offices.

...juice from either a slice of onion or a clove of garlic is drawing...watch the garlic though, sometimes it can burn your skin.

...antiseptic herbs tea tree oil, goldenseal, dandelion, chickweed...others I can't remember right now...dried or fresh herbs, boil, steam or pound with enough water to make a paste-like consist, apply & cover with bandage.

...also you might want to look for black salve or often called draw salve...good to keep on hand.

If it starts looking worse or most importantly you start running a fever or feeling fluish...definately get yourself to a Dr. ASAP though.

it's so easy for us to "diagnose" but you're better off going to the doctor. It's probably nothing but better to get it checked out sooner than later.

I had thought of epson salts. I really doubt it's skin cancer because I haven't been out in the sun much in years and definitely not with an exposed back.

I trust the intelligent people here more than a dr. I know I have to go though .

I went out and bought some cortizone cream which made it sting.

I just wanted to add (other than that I think you should let a doctor take a look at it) that corticosteroids are not the way to go if it's a bacterial or viral thing. They'll only supress the immune system.

Sorry about the multiple posts. I hope a mod can come along and clean it up.

The benadryl stuff I put on it last night made the swelling go down a lot... maybe it is indeed some kind of bite or allergic reaction.

It definitely feels soft, not hard.

Does it feel like there's fluid in it? I'm only asking for the sake of comparison to a couple spots I've had. If there is fluid, I don't know what that means.

It's nice that you trust some people here more than a doctor, but unless someone here is a doctor, none of us are the ideal source of feedback for this kind of thing.

My opinion: http://www.medicinenet.com/boils/article.htm

I get them occasionally. I've heard people describe them as "an alien trying to break through the skin".

Getting it lanced will suck, especially one that big/deep, but fixes it immediately. You'll probably get stuck on some antibiotics too.

Do you own a cat? Wear a (new) brassiere? Any new shirts? Soaps?

I know that I sometimes get little itchy lumps on my skin when it comes into prolonged contact with a dog or cat.

No inside pets and no bra. I don't think it's a boil. The benadryl is still working great, I put some more on this morning. Swelling is down 50%.

shadexiii I know!! The sane thing would be to go to a dr but for whatever reason it is not simple for me to do.

Does it itch? Does it hurt? Does it feel hard or soft? Does it feel like there is liquid inside it? (sorry, so many questions, just trying to narrow down the possibilities)

This might help:-

If it was on the back of one of your kids, would you delay going to the Dr.?

Look after yourself. :)
