My best creative outcomes have turned up when I unintentionally slipped into a "flow state", where time and awareness of the outside world vanished, being amazed later on to what I had done after emerging from the timeless flow state back into normal consciousness.

At first I thought only minutes had passed while I was creating a painting, then I discovered that hours had. It's the only decent painting I've ever produced.

Getting into the "flow state" on purpose is the primary reason why I still play music. I have no intention of being a permanent fixture in a band ever again, or recording an opus some day. The emotional release and timeless sanctuary from the world are rewards in themselves.

Since about age 21 I have been like that

Accomplished nothing significant since then

Too much failure and social rejection

Outcome not guaranteed anyways

an eye opener for me was Nietzsche's quote about how "he with a why can bear any how" resonates with me. as long as I have my whys, I will survive until god calls me home.

When I asked if you want to play like McTell, I didn't mean to play exactly like him. I meant is that the picking kind of style you are looking for. I was trying to learn more about you and how you play.

Anyway, I did make an iphone video of myself playing a couple of songs and it didn't sound as bad as I thought it would. So, I renewed my soundcloud account and will try to post a couple songs so you can hear what I am doing. I find it helpful to talk to/listen to others regarding music. Our little exchange has pushed me a bit more into trying some new things, so thank you.

Too cute! Took me a while to get it.

Ah, shucks. I will do my best. Just keep in mind that when I am around real musicians, they don't even notice me.

and thanks to you, I noticed it now also  it has been my experience that many pros of any field including music, regard the rest of us amateurs as irrelevant at best, lacking at worst.
