Being honest my feelings towards thinking that the left is embracing Marxism comes not from Right Wing talking points (I tend to ignore those because I realize it's all pure propaganda now) but from the number of comments I have read on places like reddit, youtube, quora, and facebook by self-proclaimed marxists (iow tankies and apologists for monsters like Mao, Stalin, and Fidel) whose argument for defending this is claiming that America is just an evil empire that needs to be destroyed. I have read comments from countless people who literally claim this.
It's about the whole "Enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing which I think is a load of crap. But just as we can't convince Trump supporters that he's not working in their best interest you can't do the same with these guys either.
If that makes any sense?
Oh, you hate tankies too?
There's a lot of strains of lefties, and a lot of them are as hostile towards Leninism as they are towards fascism.
Personally, I find a lot of what tankies are willing to justify detestable, especially Western Leninists of our era. They literally defend imperialism; they often express hostility towards social justice causes because those causes don't have wide spread support; they're weirdly kneejerk in support of reactionary nationalist regimes just so long as those regimes are anti-NATO/anti-liberal.
I've noticed a portion of Leninists and alt-right types have both adopted accelerationist ideas, and that leads to certain strains of the radleft and alt-right associating cynically, on top of the ones who actually have shared beliefs, to complicate things those blocs would overlap if you were to Venn diagram them.

Oh yes I hate them, and I also hate apologists for the CCP or Fidel Castro's rule over Cuba.
Being serious, as I've mentioned before Fidel was a monster who locked homosexuals in Cuba up in literal concentration camps. And I just can't understand how some people on the left will honor him as some sort of hero for "standing up to American Imperialism" while also claiming that they support my rights as a gay man. They often claim things like "Well he gave the Cuban people free health care!" And I so badly want to tell these people "Unless you were a GAY Cuban!"
I guess maybe not everyone on the left is like that but the ones who hold such absurd logic really infuriate me. It's like they don't actually bother to research some of this stuff before they jump on bandwagons trying to be "edgy".

Leninists have a weird track record on gay rights, you can cherry-pick them to look terrible or great.
Homophobes on the right pick the best of their records to make it look like gay rights is an inherently left-wing cause. You can also point out lots of places where they were terrible, because they often were.
For what it's worth, Cuba's record is much better now, and was pretty in-line with dictatorships in that part of the world in that period. That's not to defend it, just to place it in context. Dictatorships in macho societies like to pick on queer people.
I think it's proof that LGBTQ rights aren't a left vs. right issue, they're a civil rights issue. Right wingers often give lefties entire demographics simply because no one on the right seems willing to offend the right wing base by adopting these sorts of causes.
Even now, in weird corners of the internet there's femboi apologists for Stalin who believe that Russian imperialism is good and think that's somehow aligned with their own self-professed values, Marx, their own self-interest or anything else defensible. How the actual f**k does that exist?

But on the other hand, how many people want to read and write blocks of that^^ just to get their points across or to discuss their ideas?
I have mostly given up doing massive amounts of research.
It is hardly worth the effort when the enemy opposition merely replies: "Is not."
I left that hard yakka to Brictoria when he was still around.

If one drops in, posts some smilies and a snarky comment that misses the point of the discussion because they didn't read the discussion and then insists everyone respect their opinion because they're the self-proclaimed Paragon of Veracity or some other egomaniacal title, they'll probably not be end up having their opinions considered with much weight.
It's just how things go.

I guess that all does make sense, especially given the time period when Cuba did this. And I mean I know my country was rather oppressive towards homosexuals too but in a different way like labeling homosexuality as a mental illness that could get you locked in an asylum (which were bigger hell holes than prisons in those days from what I hear). Also during the AIDS panic of the 1980's when gay men were blamed and ostricized by society for catching it and discouraged from seeking medical help.
So yeah... I guess in the old days there was no true safe haven for the LGBTQ community because nobody in the world really supported our basic human rights. Not even in the country that prided itself on "freedom" (irony, right?)
Good f*****g Gods that reminds me of this guy I met on Facebook once who was from East Germany! He was exactly like you described. I never realized there were others just like him.

It helps put into perspective why a lot of marginalized peoples are more likely to end up supporting the left, even when the left might not do anything for them. They'll probably at least eventually hear out why their rights matter too.
Traditionalists are more likely to use marginalized peoples as a punching bag when they need a scapegoat, but sometimes lefties adopt really traditionalist views in some areas, and then proceed to use marginalized peoples as a punching bag too. Anti-SJW tankie types are the current version of that sort of view.
I think in general, SJW types aren't really a radical threat because social changes take time and by the time any sort of radical goal is achieved it no longer appears radical. Think of how the right to vote spread, for example. It generally started with increasing the limited number of people who could vote until most or all citizens can. The story is similar in the the US, Canada and UK at least (less sure about Australia or New Zealand).

That's the best and worst thing about the internet. No matter how weird or transgressive, there's always other people just like you.

I'd lean towards worst.
