Wine does not agree with my taste buds especially red. My GF however is rather fond of a bottle of red.
The only issue is , she wants me to go to the shop and get a good bottle of wine
I've spent ages reading all the labels and have no idea what constitutes a good wine.
If there is not a bottle that I have seen her drink before ( or a Bordeaux ) I'm clueless.

You can't go too far wrong with Australian or South African Cabernet Sauvignon. Not too easy to find though, as it's mostly blended with Shiraz or Merlot. Avoid anything under about £4.50.

I’m not that picky. I usually want a Merlot or Cabernet as long as it’s not the very cheapest brand.

Cheers dude , I'll try and remember that. I'll usually spend around £6-8 especially if it's on sale at that price.

Last one I bought was Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages £9 in Tesco's , £2 off till 17/06/2019 ( I splashed out )

If I could prove my detractors wrong, I would finally leave this place.

Just to show that I practise what I preach (for the most part), this is what will be keeping me company over the next couple of hours. Actually, it's French Cabernet Sauvignon (£4.50). I almost bought a bottle of South African, on offer at £4 (discounted from £5.50), something I may regret.

Based on what the labels say, I couldn't have picked a good wine if my life depended on it! The labels with the jargon (beyond goes with fowl, pork etc), tells me nothing.

We once wanted to find a replacement for the white wine Blue Nun when it became harder to find here. The clerk recommended a very sweet Riesling wine that really only is fit for desserts. When we pointed that out, he claimed that Blue Nun was considered sweeter.
The label might say so, but certainly not my taste buds!

We always try to say what wine we're looking for a replacement for, that has been the best way to get something similar in taste.

If your GF prefers wine and you don't, maybe you guys should consider a tasty bag in box wine? Then she can enjoy a glass when she would like to. Bottles must be drank pretty quickly once opened.

What wine to look for depends on what meal it's for.

Personally I am fond of these:

Matto di Bacco Barbera
Italian
for pizza and pasta, also goes with pork and lobscouse
among my faves, this is the most sour wine (in taste)

rather similar to Carussin Asinoi Barbera d'Asti, which is available in both bottle and bag in box

There is one that is just called Piemonte Barbera (this one 2017), that we always have with our Christmas meal (pork roast and pork sausages). I think it's actually a mixed wine?
It's also excellent with pasta.

El Copero
Spanish
very fruity taste, goes with nearly everything, the sweet tasting wine on my list

We used to get one called 360 dager (360 days) but haven't found it in a while

And finally:

Faustino VII
Spanish

this one we use with one particular pizza (Dr Oetker Ristorante Pepperoni-Salame) and tikka masala
It's just made for those meals!

^ She's a food and wine snob Skilp ( nothing wrong with that btw ).

She'd be up for a box of wine if it was to her liking.

I do buy Faustino VII & V when it's on offer.

My money situation has changed which makes it a bit easier as I can gamble on a more expensive wine.

I'll run the other bottles you suggested by her or maybe I'll surprise her as I can take all the praise if it's good and blame you if she doesn't like it :P
