Could he be hurt and possibly in shutdown mode? I get that at times other times they are meltdowns. He could be having a meltdown. He might be heartbroken and falling into deep depression. I sure hope Im wrong though!

if you go back through Tim_Tex's actual recent posts, you'll see the thread where he personally identifies that he feels that he is not welcome - it's a dating thread where women on the site are talking about the type of men they don't want. apparently about 7 women members (out of 35,000 or so) don't want to date a religious person or a conservative.

I wouldn't want a religious girlfriend or a social conservative, and I'm a conservative myself.

i should clarify the women i counted mostly didn't list both. most listed one OR the other. but i think he might find that distressing to see something listed over and over again that he feels describes him.

Tim Tex original post indicated the reason for departure as bullying & social isolation for being conservative and religious.

Assuming Tim Tex would know how to handle direct attacks or harassment and that the Moderators would deal with it, the feelings he expresses must come from comments or attitudes allowed by the forum rules.

Here's a pertinant section of the site conduct rules:

2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.

In my opinion there is an internal conflict in this rule. The second sentence allows what the first sentence prohibits. The key aspect of the problem is the word 'attacking'. Civil discourse requires one discuss another's opinion, belief or philosophy with basic respect.

^^^you missed the point. go and actually look at his previous posts for a timeline of why he left. presumably it built up over time but there is a very clear "final straw" prior to this thread, and there was no personal attack, insinuation, or bullying present.

he may have felt like his views were not welcome in PPR, just like i feel like my views are not welcome there even though they are quite different from his. but the final straw doesn't seem to be PPR at all, it is a dating thing. most of his recent posts about Christianity and conservatism on the site were along these lines:

Tim_Tex wrote:
I guess I have to renounce Christianity and become liberal to have friends/romantic partners with the same interests.

Tim_Tex wrote:
Looks like I'm SOL.

So many people have "Christian" and "conservative" as dealbreakers

Tim_Tex wrote:
Has anyone experienced being ridiculed, bullied, or being cheated out of friendship/relationship opportunities because of other peoples' predetermined views of you, even if you are nearly the complete opposite of what they're describing.

I experience this a lot, and it hurts so much.

so i don't think the problem is what people in the thread are assuming based on what the OP stated. it looks like it's not a PPR debate issue, i believe it's an issue with not feeling wanted in the L&D arena due to religion and politics.

I do see the conclusion you make, but you are suggesting the real reason he left is different from the reasons he states. That's a supposition, and there is a possibility you are correct, but in this case I lean towards he meant all of what he said. Using the Broke-the-camels-back analogy, one can't look at the 'last straw' and say 'Here. This individual straw is the problem." and ignor the rest of the pile of straws. It may explain why it happened now, but isn't the whole story.

I say this because more then a few others have echoed his perspective and from experience I know this is a common problem on forums. If things are more or less left to sort themselves out, it usually leads to a situation where the strongest or most numerous party prevails, and leads to the situation of birds of a feather flocking together (and the other birds leave).

With this forum however, the unity point is being on the spectrum (or involved with people on the spectrum) and it is a case of holding together birds not of the same feather in social or political opinions.

I'm not sure that Tim left, the last post he made was almost a day after he opened this thread.

This thread becomes an interesting discussion I'd love to continue. But not here. This is about Tim and his unhappiness, and Tim as a person is more important than a discussion that has gone far from topic.

Tim, are you still here?

seeing as how he isn't here posting anymore, it's not really super-relevant if the thread stays on topic. at worst the moderators will just lock the thread if it completely devolves.

Personally if he is slighted by a FEW women saying they wouldn't date religious people', over posts that have nothing to do with him, and feels he needs to leave WrongPlanet because of that, it's his loss and no one should really worry about it all that much. Guy needs to get a stiffer backbone; yes that may be harsh but common thats just ridiculous.

There is also this.

Maybe he's making an experiment because he's curious how long it would take for people to to find out?

I noticed that too. He's checking the thread for data.

Some people seem to post good-bye messages just to see how many other people will beg them to come back - sorta like how some people seem to threaten suicide over and over again just to hear other people beg them not to do it. I hope that's not the case here.

But if he really is gone for good, then maybe this thread is better off closed ... ?

I would say give it a week. Sometimes people leave and then come back after they have cooled off.

Nice way to try and make sure he doesn't come back.
