I'm not an expert but I think the underlying motivation is a desire to be noticed or seek attention. The destructive aspect is variable and depends on the context.

No one "type" of troll - they can be wealthy or poor....extroverted or introverted.....lonely or have lots of friends.....neurotic or narcissistic.....

To be fair, most incel trolls don't get millions from their parents throughout their lifetime like a certain troll-in-chief.

I'd imagine if the typical incel troll was given similar economic stimulus they too could have a lifetime of bankruptcies and failed business ventures.

Wouldn't that be true of many trolls, that their personalities are influenced and predisposed by whatever they inherited from their parents?

Most of them didn't have loads of money to inherit, but they still had the genetic side to inherit.

Where do pathological liars with no shame and a compulsive need to manipulate others usually end up? I think there are two answers to this - 1. at the bottom (they get caught early and go to jail, they don't have the means to pay people off) 2. they gravitate to the top (Bernie Madoff is a prime example) where the public admires and enables them, because the successful pathological manipulators don't fit the "pathetic loner" stereotype that the general public naively equates with pathological personalities. Only a handful of the latter type get caught, though the GFC that hit in 2008 exposed a few more. There are thousands of type 2s out there. Trump is not as unique as he likes to pretend in that respect.

In order to rise to the top of capitalist food chain you need to have some level of sociopathic or even psychopathic tendencies. So all of this should not be a surprise. Trump's qualities are not unique, he lacks a filter but is untouched because of his wealth which was handed to him on a sliver platter.
