I had a conversation with my friend about our traits as kids, which turned into a conversation about how our families treat us. Then I realized that my brother pretty much bullied me when we were growing up and is part of the reason why I have so much social anxiety. Getting treated like crap by other autistic people in your family feels... not great.

i have a brother i have not been with since 2008. relative peace is achievable sometimes, by avoiding relations.

Will they ever invent birth control pills for kittens, so we don't have to torture them with surgery?

They do have 'contraception' pills for male dogs.
It is injected under the skin and can last for over a year. [woof] 8)

I think it's harder for female kitties than for female dogs, because kitties' natural instinct is to jump and climb and be up high on furniture, which isn't allowed with sutures. It's torturous keeping her at ground level, and if she does jump up on something she falls off because of her cone (no balance or vision).

Who exactly has spare rooms with no furniture where their kitty can wear a cone and stay on the floor for 12 days?

When my cat got fixed I carried her around for awhile so she didn't have to walk a lot. She wanted me to carry her for months afterwards... I awoken her laziness. lol

She has a crate, which she normally enjoyed sleeping in pre-surgery.

Since surgery she slept in it one night because she was high on painkillers, but the other nights she hasn't been able to sleep because there's not enough room with her cone on. The cone catches on the side wires of the crate. Then she bashes around trying to get out because she's disoriented with the cone / lack of vision / and the cone makes her water splash all over the bedding. She's not allowed to get her belly wet, and she can't sleep in a wet cone. Bashing at the door will hurt her more than staying out of the crate.

Oh, and the litter sprays everywhere because of her cone (she can't see to scratch), so then she ends up with wet gravel all over her belly. Definitely not cool. And I can't sleep with her bashing at the door and crying.

Plus I might add that my dog is also in a cone, and refuses to leave the room with us.

He's a good boy, but it's like an obstacle course in here with all my furniture covered in sheets, and pillows / cushions / cat beds / dog beds / litter bin, and food / water bowls on the floor. Not to mention a 2 metre cat tree on its side on the floor, so she can't climb onto it.

Grumble.

It's going to be a very, very long week. I can barely even take a shower or leave the room to eat.

Showering was the most frustrating part of having a newly spayed cat. It's hard to leave the room for even just 15 minutes when your cat decides it wants to try to climb everything the moment you're not watching it. I eventually just started taking her into the bathroom with me and having her lay on a towel... Then she started jumping onto the bathroom counter.

I know, right!!

It's worse than having a newborn, because newborns aren't known to jump up on furniture if you blink or turn your back.

Newborns generally aren't sliced open, either. We don't have to worry about wound infections with babies.

:(

I heard it only gets worse as the week goes on, because kitties' bellies will start to itch and they will have more energy for jumping around. They'll also be more frustrated with their cones.

I may have to post again between now and the 10th, when my life will presumably go back to normal.
