You pursued a goal, worked towards it, and reached it. Not only is this great for you, but I hope other people at WP will find inspiration in it.

Keep us posted how things are working out for you.

Because I moved to the state of Florida, I needed to take an additional test in order to get my license (thanks Florida!).

That being said, as of today I am an official licensed physical therapist assistant!! ! I am so stoked and I thought I'd share the good news. Of course you'll now have to refer to me as AspieSingleDad, PTA but it's only three extra letters you'll need to type....LOL

I guess I'd also like to say that this was a very difficult thing for me to accomplish, and it took me longer to accomplish then almost all of my classmates, but I did get it done!

I thought I'd give an update. I got hired as a PTA in Colorado so my son and I moved back there. So I'm now treating patients in an outpatient clinic that focuses on the use of manual therapy i.e. a lot of hands-on with the patient. Each patient is treated for 45 to 60 minutes, with almost all getting a 60 minute treatment.

While the experience is extremely challenging and at times overwhelming, most NTs starting out and working with patients so extensively would find the same thing. Keep in mind that not all clinics offer so much hands-on treatment time. They usually have the patient do supervised exercises and then provide maybe 15 to 25 minutes of hands-on treatment.

Point is, certainly don't have unrealistic expectations of yourself. We're all different, with different abilities (some way above my own). Yet, don't underestimate yourself and certainly don't OVERestimate the abilities of most NTs. They aren't walking around the earth finding jobs and social interactions to be easy and effortless.

Congratulations on your job and thanks for the update. PT interests me a lot right now as I am going through it post broken ankle surgery. I get about 10 minutes of "soft tissue mobilization" which feels pretty good and I think is reducing my neuralgia. But the rest is just setting me to exercises. Oh, and an ice water boot with electrical stimulation. Your hands on therapy sounds more useful to me.
