I love the fall, and I love Halloween. I'm looking forward to doing some masterwork pumpkin carvings this year, along with my son who just loves to take a safety-carver to the pumpkins; I've already got some designs and plans for them. Normally I'd also be arranging an elaborate Halloween display for the front of and just inside of the house, but this year I'm living in a rather remote spot, so I'm not sure I'll get any visitors other than perhaps my two neighbors. In addition to an elaborate spooky display out front, I'm fond of fog lit up with a black light pouring out the front door when it is open (my son loves the fog machine); I like to rig up a sound-clip that incorporates the first few stanzas of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, ending with a thunderclap, which plays through suddenly and very loudly from hidden speakers outside the front door behind my victims, er, I mean visitors, just before I open the door and let the fog roll out. It's a fun double-startle; they are started by the sudden music from behind them, and typically turn around to look behind them, and then I suddenly open the door, and glowing fog pours out. And after startling them, I love to lavish them with candy. "Please, grab a handful! Extra for extra-good costumes!" Halloween is a day to celebrate the master trickster in me.
A childhood favourite (sans Rammstein, but WTF):
