The 21st century definition of the word "emo" is basically you listen to really terrible music and wear dark clothing because MTV said so and your friends do it and act like life sucks and you want to end it.

I'm not into this emo sh**, to be honest. It basically is against every principle I believe in. I don't curl up in my room and write suicide notes. I basically do something about my situation. Like right now, I'm plotting the perfect way to expose every single injustice my high school has ever committed against me, and since they don't have that efficient of a public relations team, they can't defend themselves against it. Think of it as knocking down a glass house with a steel wrecking ball.

Not all emos cut themselves. That's a *stereotype* which means it's not always true...

exactly...

Why do people think this?
Oh, and by the way, nice avvie:)

same reason they believe any stereotype, that all hippies are dirty and beg on the street corners, or all blacks are interested in cadalacs or all white girls have long hair and fake boobs . . .
It is so people can feel justified by dismissing a whole group of people by rationalizing that 'they are not like them'. It makes them feel superior even though they are not.

Merle

Nice explanation! And anyone who stereotypes is superior to no-one.
