Other than that (if I don't think about anything) everything is fine.
You really must explain how you manage this. If I could pull that off, I'd probably have higher numbers posted here more often.
I'll try, but I warn you now: I can't explain things to any understandable point.
I guess, in order for that sentence to be accurate, it should have been "if I don't think about anything
important" or "anything
I don't want to think about."
I purposefully concentrate on stupid, little things in order to keep my mind off of bigger, more stressing things. For instance, I know tomorrow is going to suck. I know this for several reasons. If I think about them, I will start to get stressed and unhappy... So, I don't. Instead, I think about those quiz things, or my pets, or what I should name my music stand (I kid you not. I was running out of things to think about earlier). If that doesn't work, I listen to music, read a book, or watch a movie...anything to lose myself. Asking myself what will happen next in a plot usually helps, or trying to memorize the words of a song. If I can disassociate from reality, reality is no longer a problem. (Does that make any sense?)
If, by some self-destroying problem, I start to think about whatever I want to forget, I do something involving. About half an hour earlier, I started to think about an overdue, important paper, so I went upstairs and cleaned the kitchen. It forced me to think about other things - where does this dish go, how much soap do I have left, ect - and I calmed down. Obviously, it can be more involving than that - trying to put together a model, for example, or playing a complex song/game, or anything that makes you think. Thinking about something else will make you forget (at least temporarily) about whatever is worrying you.
I hope that helped. Like I said, I can't explain anything, and sometimes what works for me doesn't work for anyone else.
