After seeing a clip from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' where the main character abandons her cat in the rain, my mum laughed at me for getting upset over it. This is just like school all over again. Perhaps she thinks it was stupid for me to get upset over a scene from a movie like that, but she didn't have to laugh at me and make me feeling even more like crap than I already do.

In truth, it reminded me of my cat Abraham, who was hit by a car when he was a kitten. It happened 8 years ago, but I've never really got over it. Perhaps the cat didn't look like him, and he didn't go through a situation like that, but it reminded me of him. And I'm sick of my mum telling me I'm being stupid whenever I get emotional over things that remind me of him. Earlier this week I talked about something similar here.

Oh Abraham...Abraham Abraham Abraham.

I agree- a person's feelings should be respected. I can't get emotional support from my mother but over the years I came to accept it. I know she loves me, she just isn't built that way.

My lost loved one was "Goose"- He was a stray-he moved in by climbing a tree at the back of the house-getting in the attic and jumping down from an entry way to the attic in the bathroom ceiling. He used to leave little sooty paw skid marks on the wall. If he wanted to leave while I was at work he would jump out the second story window.

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

It's not nice when people laugh at you for feeling something, especially if it reminded you of something else.

I don't know why, but this reminds me of the time I got upset about the closing of a British store called "Woolworths." I still am quite upset that it is permantely closed, yet my mother thinks it is silly to be upset over it.

Works both ways, mothers are perfectly entitled to find things funny. If my mother laughs at something and i don't appreciate it, then i'll be really sh***y to here for the next 10 - 15 seconds and usually leave the room. And likewise, she'll let me know when i've done something that's not so smart. In life, you should try and ignore or detach yourself from the past, you can't change it.

I find it much easier to just detatch from mothers.
