I'm just irritated. My cousings (fully black) sometimes call me Carlton behind my back. My uncle also used to compare me to Carlton when I was in highschool. It pisses me the **** offf.

That sucks. Some people are so thoughtless, and when it's family, it's worse. :?

I don't know why they do. They commented on my speech patters (I was raised by a white lady) so I figure that's it. Or they just think I'm nerdy.

God, they must be as*holes. AS is hard enough without race and culture stepping in, so I can only imagine, very poorly, what you're going through.

I don't know a thing about black culture, but from what little I have experienced, young black peers are pretty hard on any other black males who seem "odd" or articulate, "nerdy." I mean, I got that even as a white guy, but the pressure to blend in with black kids was never really an issue seeing how I've always lived in this small, white farming community.

I'll note that our President was raised by whites, and in spite of being strongly conservitive and not infrequently labeled racist, I cast my first Democratic vote for President in my life last November. Further, I did so largely based on the comentary of another individual who might be labeled "carlton", Colin Powell. If I were you, I would take it as a huge compliment unless your carreer goal is being a pimp.

I met a guy once who looked just like Carlton.. I don't think he acted like him, though, just looked like him.
 Don't remember where I met him.. just remember that he looked exactly like him and he got that all the time.

You're an aspie. Of course you're nerdy. (of course, I guess Carlton had some kinda aspie-like clueless-ness..)

Are you sure they weren't pretty much just calling you an aspie?

Sorry :(

Family can be so mean when they think they're being cute - or maybe they're being cute when they're being mean thinking it camouflages the cuts they are making?

Uh, what the **** do you mean? No, they called me Carlton, and apparently you can't understand how that's derogatory in a completely different way than just calling me an aspie.
