So this summer I was hoping to find a job:

I have applied at McDonalds, Tim Hortons, London Drugs (I'm in Canada btw) and Save on Foods. McDonalds told me to apply in September because of no positions for my times, Save on Foods basically said the same thing, LD doesn't have any positions open anymore, and Tim Hortons never called me. I also tried at EB Games but they're not hiring.

I'm 17, and still stuck doing a paper route. I think really low of myself because of this. Though I do admit it is a peaceful job and I enjoy walking around my beautiful neighbourhood, a paper route is not for someone about to enter adulthood.

I have volunteered in several places (including London Drugs and a food bank) so I have experience in the work field. This economic recession is having a impact where I live and it's making it very hard for everyone to find a job. I have little money at the moment.

If I can't find anything this summer, I'll apply at McDonalds again beginning of September, but ugh man this bites.

I also need my L (Learners for driving), but my parent's won't let me drive their cars and I need money to enter driving school, so that's on hold until I get a part time job.

End of my rant, thanks for reading.

Try looking for landscaping jobs, most jobs at those places you mentioned had the positions filled in may.

Having a paper route is nothing to be ashamed of (I found it to be a good way to earn a little money while I was in college). It's an honest job and it's nice to be out and about by yourself without having to interact too much with other people (or having a jerky boss hovering over your shoulder). Yes, it does bite to be trying to find a better job in this economy, but you just have to tough it out and stick with your job while you keep looking. Try to focus on what you LIKE about your current job while you wait things out. Just remember that you have plenty of company - many other people are sticking with jobs they aren't satisfied with because the job market is so rough right now. The economy will eventually turn around and when it does, you'll have a much easier time finding a better job. Good luck with your search!
