I am doing a survey to see if modern environments like cities are the cause of sensory overload in Aspies.

As an Aspies, How do you feel in natural environments like in a forest, grass field, swamp, seaside.etc ?

Take it that there is nothing artificial like a boat, or car making unnecessary noise or planes flying.

I like the city better. I grew up in the city.

May I quote the opening lines of Torchwood's Countrycide:

Owen Harper: I hate the countryside. It's dirty, it's unhygienic...and what's that smell?
Gwen Cooper: That would be grass.
Owen Harper: Well - it's disgusting.

My thoughts exactly.

Natural environments are the only environments where I feel truely good. I can only feel like myself when I'm close to nature. The rest of the time I just feel like an animal in a cage.

I feel at home in nature. I grew up in the city too. Cities are dirty and gross. :\

I grew up in a city but I prefer nature. I love the serenity of it. It's strange but I can easily see myself as a part of nature but I find it so hard to see myself as a part of society. If that makes sense... :?

When I am in a natural environment I feel the unthinking rhythm of nature and it calms me. Most people I think feel anxious when they realize their ultimate insignificance but I find it comforting somehow.

Far more comfortable in nature than urban situation. There's virtually no noise, all anything is doing is growing and living without complications... It's glorious :).

Nature should be where our homes are and the city only business!

Yeah, I'm a big hiker. I can decompress, pace in a straight line, and have a nice view all at the same time.

The only discomfort I feel in a natural environment is when I spot another person. And cities would be lots of fun, except for all those weird and dangerous animals that haunt the place.

Maybe it'd be difficult if we were forced to live on a big city street...
but being secluded in a city apartment or suburban home is just as quiet as any country spot.

It depends on the weather and the amount of people around. If the weather is good I will like but then lots of people like to come when the weather is fine too. I like to go on the walking trail or walk down mainstreet in my hometown but it's hard when the weather is too cold, too hot, or too crowded.

I grew up in a big city and thought I had a urban personality. I didn't like to go to the countryside there were many mosquitos and I didn't like the grass. My dad and brother would go to places where they could go to underground caves and I didn't see the point in that. However some time ago I changed a little bit because I was so stressed. I lived sometime in my aunt's house that is in the outskirts of the city. I take my dog to two squares where there are a lot of green and let her run free. I am also practicing astronomy with the telescope and it also requires a quiet place where you can watch nature

I like the wide variety of choices one can find in a city, especially a big city: food, art, museums, movies, concerts, theatre, etc. etc. etc., but....

....when I get the chance to get out of the city and into nature, I am at home.

There's a balance that I find within myself when I get into the woods, into the mountains, out into the countryside, and, mainly, away from people. There's an inner peace to be found in nature that I don't find anywhere else.

So, city good, nature better!
