I have a pet fighting fish and he got stuck in a pot. My bf got him out but he's (the fish) hurt. I really care about this little fish and I'm worried. It's ok if no one responds. I'm worried and sad, and this is hard to respond to.

A fish is a life too and probably fragile
I have no clue if you can bring them to the vet and what they can do...
I hope your tiny friend is getting better soon!

those little fighting fish are tough, LostAlien, I had a couple once and they tore each other to shreds (and those were just the boy and the girl together!) I hear boy on boy fighting is even worse! So, here's to their tough little spirits and I hope your fishie is one of the survivors!

I hope that he recovers, you might want to keep a close eye on the water chemistry to make sure that he has a good environment to help him recover quickly.

Thanks for all the responses and well wishes.

He seems ok now. When I got him first he was in a bad way but he got through that, and another time he scraped the top of his head and was fine within three weeks.

He's all scraped at the top of his body and one of his fins are torn a little. He's tough and all but I still worry. He has a big personality for such a tiny fella. I'm going to put some medicine in the tank tomorrow to speed recovery and prevent illness. He's swimming ok but hasn't eaten much. I'll be able to better tell how he is tomorrow and I'll fill you in on his progress.

I have him in a small tank that has no filter (his normal tank has a filter that pushes him a little when he relaxes and the scrape is effecting his swimming ability). The tank is filled with water that I've treated for chemicals and left sit for a few days (to use for water changes). If you have any tips to help him get better soon I would appreciate it. I'm putting a teatree medicine in the tank tomorrow but if you can tell me a better one I'll try get it tomorrow. It's just that my local petshop doesn't have a good selection of fish medicines. I'm going to change the water daily though.

Tea Tree oil is a very strong antibiotic. A little goes a long way. I have no idea what putting oil in the fish's bowl will do with the oxygen intake of a fish's gills as I know that oil spills on water is not a good thing for marine life. Did you read of putting oil into an aquarium is a good thing?

What little I know about caring for fish has me concerned that might be too much shock.

It's not in an oil form. It's made for use in fish tanks. It's called Melafix. I wouldn't put normal oil in a tank.

I have him in a small tank with no filter. The water needs to be clean for him to heal. I catch him in a jug and not a net (to reduce shock when removing him from his tank). The spare water is kept in my hot press to warm it up, so temprature wise it won't shock him. The reason for the daily water changes is to prevent fecal matter from causing a problem to him. Though perhaps it's better to do this once every two days?

Aha! you make an excellent point about needing clean water to heal and not risk infection - that's why you have fish and I do not!
Thank you for explaining, understanding that reduces anxiety about how the little guy is doing.
He's clearly got someone who loves him and knows how to treat him to heal :D

You made a good point about possible shock though. I can see that he's hurting and I don't want to increase that pain..
