Hi, just thought I'd try posting to see if there's anyone who might want to say hi, chat etc. Been feeling down for quite a while and would love someone new to talk to, make new friends etc. Send me a pm, tweet me, or reply in this thread, anything is fine!

Dean

Hi Dean.

I don't do the twitter thing (not at all into social networking; the mere thought of it makes my skin crawl) but consider yourself greeted.

Thanks blastoff, how are you? I was a bit wary of social networking until about a year ago, but once I started I was glad I did. I find it much easier communicating with people through them than in realtime conversation.

Hi Dean.

I don't twitter, either. I hadn't thought of it as a replacement for conversation. I am so much more articulate in social situations online than I am in person!

Hi Dean,

I have facebook and twitter and all that, but I am most likely to be found here at WP :). I read you are interested in guitar, chess and history. I like history too, and animals, science and languages. What kind of hobbies do you enjoy?

Hi James and 'bonuspoints',

James - yes I feel just the same.

bonuspoints - Yep those are pretty much my hobbies.

I go to evening classes on Wednesdays to try and learn to play the guitar, slowly improving. I think the teacher is finding me a bit of a pain though because I'm only interested in playing Bob Dylan songs and have no interest in learning anything else :)

I enjoy learning about history, all periods really but at the moment concentrating on the Roman empire.

Probably my main hobby and which I've stuck with the last three years or so, is chess. Play at my local club on Tuesdays and go to tournaments at weekends now and again. I find it therapeutic and it clears my mind.

I have a collection of instruments at home, ranging from an electronic piano (currently broken which is maddening because it is my favorite) to a conga drum. I have a guitar as well and I would love to learn to play it, however I have ridiculously short fingers and find I am unable to reach the chords.

I am currently reading books about the various wars, ie US revolutionary, WWI etc. I find ancient history, Greeks and Rome interesting as well. :).

My main instruments are voice and clarinet. I wish I had learned the piano, but I can't put the attention to it.

Love ancient Rome--I even went and learned to write and speak Latin.

I started teaching myself how to read music and play a bit on piano when I was six or so, but the clarinet was the first instrument at which I was proficient (can hardly play now, its been years). I am now better at the piano though. I haven't progressed much, however, I can happily play my favorite Christmas carols! I wish I was able to sing, I have always wanted to, but I have a flat voice.

I'd love to learn to play the piano as well, but not sure where to start?

A full blown piano would obviously be difficult to pay for, house, and tune. So are electronic keyboards just as good in some respects?

My keyboard is similar to:

And is awesome, sound quality is great. I also have:

That one is fun to play around on, however it doesn't handle multiple notes played at once well.

The first piano was a gift, based on amazon, they run about $800 US. Mine has a wire loose or something...I have been looking for a local repair shop but I am out in the boonies.
