I had this for a short bit when I was 14. It drove me crazy and I realized I need obsessions to keep me going in life so I have something to always think about.

A person caught up in an obsession often does not realize they're behaving obsessively. You may have several 'somewhat obsessive' specialized interests and not be aware that they seem unusual to others.

Have you asked those close to you if you seem to have an especially deep interest in anything that they don't think is interesting at all?

Or if you have a tendency sometimes to ramble on and on about any subject(s) that kind of bore the people around you?

Personally I think people go through phases as regards obsessions. Also I've seen enough posts to believe that it's normal enough for an Aspie to not have an obsession or to have a few obsessions at once. Try not to worry about it.

See about things that you like (activities or readingwise), that's the start of obsessions sometimes (if you think that it would help you).

I tend to get obsessive, but having been through the cycle more than a couple times, I now recognize them coming on and force myself to stop before they become too problematic. Not having them at your age also means you can be well rounded and have a better educational foundation to support them later! :D

Yah, I have obsessive interests. Not continuously, but often enough. They can last from hours to months to years. Some pass, some recur. None have ever truly persisted, but maybe that's just because I'm old now.

I try not to spend too much time and/or money (especially) on them these days--they are not "hobbies" in any normal sense.

I went through a short period of time that I didn't have any obsessions, between the time that I started at WP, in 2004 and the December of 2005. I wish that I did have an obsession during that time. It would have kept my mind going.

As others have said, obsessions aren't necessary in all AS people. As for me, I have them---special intense interests. I tend to always be into roller coasters/amusement parks, house plans, and my HO scale model railroad (which incorporates an amusement park and houses). Then, this model railroad (which is of a tourist town) is a setting for a novel I am working on. So they all tie in together. Then, I also have cyclic interests like magic tricks, comets/astronomy, ancient Indian earthworks, etc. Most people who know me though, know me for music. Music is a savant-talent skill I have, and I use music to play in public such as at church, etc. Within music, I am very much into organs, synths, and dulcimers.

Obsessions are pretty natural really; if you enjoy it, who's stopping you?

Still, if it's giving you a drive at all, some kind of common interest, atleast it's something to do I suppose. xD

Edit: Currently I have no obsessions though, and haven't really recalled having any. I used to get quite hooked on stuff like video games, though. :D
