I have managed to stop smoking now as a habit in that I don't smoke every day. However, if I'm with someone who smokes I will have a crafty one and when Im out drinking its even worse as I can smoke a whole packet in a night. If you used to social smoke like this, how did you stop cos Im finding it really hard to resist temptation.

I have herd from many ex-smokers that this was the best way to quit: Sit down and smoke a full pack straight no breaks. If you don't feel anything after one packet then smoke another.

That sounds like a bad idea.

It is a bad idea because it puts a heck of a lot more tar and other carcinogens in your lungs over a very short period of time, and it rarely works. It's like the cliche that if you want your kid not to take up smoking, you force him to smoke a cigarette or a whole pack. Well, first of all, that might be considered child abuse these days. And second, if the kid decides he likes the stuff, then what do you do?

Since I'm not a smoker or even an ex-smoker, I don't feel qualified to give advice other than to point out what doesn't work. I hope some other ex-smokers out there can give some ideas.

I used to do that with weed. I'd smoke a whole quarter to myself in hopes that I'd get so blitzed I'd never want to smoke it again... didnt work.

You'll quit when you're ready to quit.

That never works...at least not for anyone that I know.

I just quit cold turkey a couple of weeks ago and to this day i'm still tempted by them. I had one socially within that period and thats it. I think more than anything you have to be completely dedicated to quitting. If you are not 110% ready to quit, more than likely it will continue.

Get people to take your smokes off you whenever you start smoking. Especially if it's just social smoking. I know alot of my friends only smoke cigarettes when drunk and when they're available for them. And they don't want to smoke, but they do. So in an effort to stop them smoking entirely we just take the lighter and smokes off them and out of their mouths and after another drink they forget about it entirely. I don't know if that will work for you but if you don't have any and you make sure whoever you're socialising with doesn't as well then there's no opportunity for you to smoke at all.

The rumour of reason that my idea works is because when you do it you throw up heaps and you never look at another cigarette again and apprentally when ever you atempt to smoke you will get the sickinging feeling.

You need to start chain smoking. 2 packs a day? you wussy you need to start counting in how many matches/Lighters you go through a day. Begin to smoke un-socially in no smoking area's, preferably around children. If anyone asks you to put it out stub the cig in their cornea that'l teach um

this is a bad idea. why dont you try dipping the cigrettes in vinagar and leaving them, youl get a craving and want to smoke but it will taste like crap.

and this is coming from a goth kid who smokes 2 packs a day, how ironic

This sounds like a cool idea. Ive been able to refrain from having any cigarettes for a while now but my grandma is having difficulty quitting. Maybe when she isnt looking I will dip all her ciggies in white vinegar.....

I didn't think you smoked or had smoked or are trying not to smoke. With your beauty, not to flatter you at all, why would you ruin it? I hope you can manage to stop smoking. Maybe try one of those Nicorate patches or something like that. Drinking? A good hearted girl like your self shouldn't be doing that. Oh well I'm not you. I hope you can fight that temptation. I'll see how you're doing. Email me if you want so that I can check and support you.
