My grandma is 96 and currently lives in a residential aged care facility. Due to my own mum not being very understanding in fact quite the opposite I have a very close bond with my grandma. Yesterday she had a really baad fall at her "home" she tripped over her blanket when going to the toilet in the middle of the night fell out and broke her collar bone, hip and has internal bleeding she has to have surgery this arvo given her age I am naturally very upset and concerned. I am a million miles away I went to the shops and parked I totally forgot there was a tree holder thing in between the parks and put in drive and went over it fortunately I think everything is ok. I am scared she will die and I am scared she will have to go into more high care accomodation.

My grandmother is dying of cancer at the moment. I deal with it by staying busy (I'm committed to so many different things that I have absolutely no free time, and probably won't until she's passed on). It works for me.

If there's nothing that you can do to help, then I suggest make yourself busy. If you like video games, then start playing one on a higher difficulty level. Anything - work, recreation, art - that will keep you busy will help in the short term. Try not to brood over it. I mean, it's natural and healthy to be sad/worried, but it's not good to sit and worry about it all the time.

Don't panic too much. It is ok to be worries, but when you panic too much, you turn into something like what I am. I'm paranoid and I'm always afraid things are going to go wrong.

I too am sorry about your grandma. I lost my grandma in July 2009. I lost my grandfather in Nov 2008. So I can understand the pain and feeling sad. I miss my two beloved grandparents very very much. I think about them and pray about them all the time. In fact I'm missing them terribly right now. My grandma wanted to die knowing that I got married, but I never fulfilled her wishes and now I feel so bad.

I lost all three of my g-parents by the time I finished middle school. Other one died long before I was born. I've since lost a few other relatives and friends. I was actually sitting next to my last g-parent when she suffered her fatal heart attack. Suffice to say I know alot about dying.

You should say whatever needs to be said between you, in case the worst happens. I don't think any of my g-parents made it to their 80s, but I could be wrong.

I really feel for you. I also think that it's wonderful that you have a close bond with your Grandma. My Grandpa died of health problems, last July, a day before his 95th Birthday.
