Exactly what you describe is why I now have a rule that no one may crash in my home. My partner had a friend move to town from across the country and he stayed on our (half-sized) couch forever (or so it seemed) and I had a breakdown. Then a couple of years later, one of my partner's friends broke up with his live-in and stayed on our couch and I had another breakdown and that's when I realized the causal connection and said the new rule is that no one may ever sleep on our couch/floor/whatever again under any conditions whatsoever. There are only two rooms in our apartment as it is and there's not enough room for the two of us, let alone anyone else. At all. The law.
I just can't function when too many people are in my space. And in a space this small, any people are too many people.
