You know those people, the ones who think they're really clever? They have an IQ just above ret*d, but from their perspective it looks like they must be really smart, since, hey, they can read books, and speak! Kind of... The severely stupid look up to them, and any friend of theirs who has this bare minimum ability to think and create becomes another genius in their minds. They love talking about it.

They also say some really stupid stuff.

One recently: Watching the Big Bang Theory with a rly rly clever NT (Season 3 Episode 20) and it gets to the part where Leonard and Penny start doing the "divorced couple arguing about their kids" gag.

Rly rly clever NT: "HA ha... It's like... it's like Sheldon's their kid." :knowing nod in my direction:

Really? Is it?

And secondly, that's the part of this show you find funny? This is the part where I'm yawning and waiting for the real jokes to start again.

Relative intellect sure is a b***h.

Relative intellect is a ***** sums it up  I can't stand anyone with less than 120 IQ unless they have some sort of disorder that makes testing inaccurate. My brother for example, kid is more ASD than I am and has some sort of language disorder which makes it impossible for him to score anything but average but it's so obvious to me or anyone who has dealt with intelligent kids that he's about as mentally capable as I am.

These people need to be barred from qualifying ANYONES intelligence including their own. This same guy has an aspie nephew who he thinks he "helps" by regurgitating everything from LewRockwell.com. Send the kid a link and he'd probably understand it all better and faster, and think of ways it's wrong before the day is through.

Hey, I definitely know what you're talking about. These people with just above ret*d I.Q.s, which I identify to be at the 120 mark, are some of my "favorite" people. They think that since they're smarter than construction workers, this immediately allows them to compete with Nobel laureates and computer scientists.

My brother's friend happens to be such a person. Since he has a small bookshelf full of sci-fi books (among others) and majored in political science (so intimidating!), he thinks he can respond to my non-obvious and non-conventional remarks in an overconfident and trying-to-falsify tone. He fails miserably and always gets put in his place. :D

ARGGGGGHHHHH.... yes. I hate that so much. The tone is so unjustified and thus BAFFLING.

I need this shirt.

Just recently, I told my mum about the passing of Pete Quaife. Now, my mum was assistant manager at McDonald's, and it takes a very smart person, to work that position. She had to train new employees and read up on new material, every two months. This was her response to the news, that I told her:

"Shelby, they're old! People don't last forever, you know!"

Refrigerator Mother, or what?

If one of her favourite celebrities were to pass away, tomorrow, I would say something along the lines of, "I've read in the news, that Madonna had passed away. I'm sure that you've read the news, as well. You really liked Madonna. I'm very sorry about your loss. Do you want me to take a week off work, so that I can be there, to comfort you?"

It took me a while to really see how a passing favorite celebrity could evoke such strong feelings that I might need comfort throughout the week. I put myself through my personal list, but found that no one dying would really upset me that much. I had to really stretch it a bit, and I asked myself, what if Wolverine died? That is to say, what if he were killed off, permanently, never to return to any medium? And at this point I think I began to understand. I would be pretty heart broken.

I don't know if many neurotypical people feel this way about anything though. Maybe your mum wouldn't really be affected if Madonna died? Maybe to her Madonna is just a stage act, a dancing monkey, which she prefers over other dancing monkeys?

For someone as "smart" as yourself, OP, I would think you would recognize that basing someone's intelligence off of an IQ test is, in fact, stupid and would also realize how horrible you come across... and you even bring NT vs autistic into the mix.

Wrongplanet is seriously full of elitists. This isn't a place to moan about how intelligent you think you are compared to NT's. f**k off.

Wow. How embarrassing for us both. Ok, let's take this step by step.

Correct.

To someone who misunderstood entirely, apparently. But I bet the people discussed here would be pretty upset, too.

No, I didn't. Maybe at first, lazy glance. This is about a very special breed of NT, none of whom would be seen dead learning anything new from WP, and therefore not an issue.

And most of them are probably just being honest. There's nothing wrong with fact.

This is the EXACT place to moan. And this whole argument is very presumptuous.

No.

For the record: nya nya nya nya nya, I scored within the top 1% of my nation for comprehension. I wonder what yours would have been, Captain McAngry?

I think in a way it really sucks having a 120-130 IQ (if we must use this biased measure of intelligence). Because you're intelligent enough to understand there is greater complexity and deeper understandings out there, but you're not intelligent enough to comprehend them properly.

I don't think people of higher academic intelligence should put down people of lower academic intelligence, I think they should thank their lucky stars they were born with enough fluid intelligence plus educational opportunity to have the high academic intelligence they have gained. Appreciate what you have, and don't put down those who are less fortunate.

A man got an obvious joke but he may miss the less obvious ones.

Life is definately a bleak hellscape.

Is that really how they feel? I don't know if they really think about it.

Hm. To me this isn't about higher academic intelligence OR IQ. It's an annoying lie I experience. I don't put these people down. In fact it's people like this that thoughtlessly put me down. IRL I am patient and kind to these people because I do feel sorry for them. It must indeed suck to be so slow and wish so bad to be so clever. It just all builds up inside me... Because I DON'T disprove every silly thing they say, I let it go. I take the swearing and anger when I do speak up and ask politely for an apology afterwards. I DO feel sorry for them, and try to be nice, and I certainly get nothing of the sort in return. Please try understand that this is the nature of this thread for me. This is the only place I can be 100% honest about it.

I appreciate your humorous attempt to point out the harmlessness of a situation. It's true that the incident in itself is nothing much to be concerned about. It's the overall mindset which is actually difficult to deal with, that incident only being something which offsets the self-delusion of great intellect, and apparently goes unnoticed by the delusive. Noticing all these things and not being able to talk about it is the hard part. That people have such a difficulty with truth and reality... when it's pretty much all I live for... it's really hard for me to deal with. It's one of the few things that can make me cry.

I know I'm weird, and I don't cry about stuff most people would. But this is the stuff that upsets me.

Don't you guys get sick of people treating you (relatively speaking) as if you're a moron? No one takes into account our fluid intelligence. Doesn't it bother you? Well, it bothers me. It bothers me so much that I make sure I take that into account before I talk to any aspie on here. It saves a lot of communication problems because I act on the assumption that you're actually smarter than I can imagine. It would have helped a lot here if you had the same respect for your fellow aspie.

I KNOW you think of more stuff than you can type out. I know you come with an inbuilt BS detector. I treat you accordingly.
