Getting my drivers licence
I'm nearly 20 and a half, and unlike most people my age I do not have my driver's licence. This is not due to me being prevented from doing so(even though my parents have concerns about me driving like most parents have about their childern) but do to me mainly deciding to put off getting a licence for the past 3-5 so I could graduate high school. In addition, I did have a learner's permit, however that expired because in my first year college I decided to put off getting my licence again so I could do well in terms of my academics. In which I have done well and better then most formally independent college kids due to my college dedication.
However, the time has come for me to get my licence has come I feel and I'm taking my permit test in my home state of Virginia So I can get my licence in 30 days at the very least. Although, I'm feeling quite nervous since I remember failing the test once wile still in high school, and I feel like I could fail it again despite studying.
Anyone in the same situation I am,

Don't feel too bad about this. I'm 10 years older than you are and still don't have mine.
I pretty much thought the way you did, plus I knew I didn't feel ready. I have a permit and have gone out in the car with my bf but haven't taken the test yet.
My current stumbling block is my vision--I need new glasses but haven't been able to get them (money issues). I may be able to get a deal on a new pair soon, I hope. I can't read the street signs unless I'm literally right on top of them ( ) and I don't want to take the chance of not seeing obstacles and hazards until it's too late, either.
Anyway, good luck on your driving test. Let us all know how it goes.

I got my drivers license when I was 19, and I at one stage was consumed by the thought of not being able to drive and being really old. While I was still a learner I would always look at others driving cars and wonder "is he/she younger than me?"
Once I got my license though I didn't really care anymore. I stay at home mostly I so don't drive a lot anyway. But at the time I felt pressurised to be at the same level as everyone else by getting a license by 18 years of age. Looking back now I guess I can see how silly I was in thinking I needed to be like everyone else. If you had more important things to do so you postponed getting a license it's no big deal. Unless you feel it is, and if you do then I can tell you it's no big deal. Just take it at your pace and be happy whenever you get it. Like my mum told me during my learning period "everyone your age wants to drive, but once they get over the novelty of it they find it more of a hassle". Well that wasn't her exact words, but I did in time find her to be right.

I felt the same way with my learner's permit, however when I got it I eventually claimed down.
But now I feel like it's more necessary since I'm finding it a hassle to get rides from my parents or friends, and overall it limits my options socially. Also I'm at the age where I feel I just need a licence just in case of an emergency or if I have to go someplace urgent that is not within walking distance.
Besides getting there, what exactly does driveing have to do with school and socialising?
Anyway, everyone fails it plenty of times. Either because the tester is a butt hole, nit picking every pointless detail, or you missed something. I failed it once, after the two "fails" i had where my sister lives. I learned how to paralell park, then passed. My sister, failed over 9 times, then passed.
Not because she was bad at driveing. Oh no. I passed with people who didn't turn their nose up toward the sky, and act like a single meaningless dent equaled "unfit for the test". (yes, they were THAT snobby) My sister's area has snobbish butt holes. In fact, the second time I got tested, I stopped at the stop signs, and the W#$% put me down for speeding through them! The owner of the car believed her bull.
