Ok, there's this forum for computer techs, and every time I try and post something useful I get attacked. I rarely post on there anyway because I am not working right at the moment. But I get accused of doing everything wrong, get accused of being too negative, etc. I've already been kicked off a couple survivalist forums for being a little too vulnerable for the macho hotheads who hang out there.

Right now I have Wrong Planet and a homesteading forum where I'm sort of accepted. The thing is, I have nothing to do all day, so I hang out online. I hate it. I wish I had work to do and stuff to occupy my time, so I don't sit around the house and browse forums where nobody likes me. I am waiting for school to start, I'm taking a course on soldering so I will be able to replace laptop DC jacks and such, since there's heavy demand for it where I am and few people doing it. The thing is, the class is only on Fridays, albeit half the day on Friday. That means that I'll be sitting here bored again Saturday-Thursday.

This really sucks. Every money making venture I've tried has failed. So I'm going back to school to learn something else to hopefully make money doing. I tried making money as a computer tech, but there are too many people doing basic tech work in Sacramento (removing viruses and such) and not enough demand. Most everybody who called me wanted a laptop DC jack replaced, which I couldn't do. So I didn't make any money. So here I am, surfing the net because I'm bored.

Have you ever done any soldering? If you do not already have any old PC parts laying around, go to some computer shop and get a couple of bad sound cards and begin practicing by removing and replacing the jacks on them. I am no expert at soldering, but I do know a little and I would gladly try to help here. Or, I am sure you can find some Do-It-Yourself instructions on the 'net and begin putting gathering some basic tools if you do not already have some.

Thanks, guys. I have some hand/eye coordination problems, (common among auties) so that's why I'm taking the class, to learn how to do soldering firsthand. Most NTs could pick it up from the net, but I doubt I could. The worst part is learning how to DEsolder, which most people learn by trial and error. Once somebody shows me how to do it, I can buy kits and such and hone the skill. The thing is, until I get to the point where I can do all that, I'll be bored. I registered for the class in May and have been sitting at home bored since then.

How did you advertise your computer help did you have a web site? I was so disgusted at the price of tech help I figured on trying it myself. My last problem I had a completely dead hard drive and had to have it replaced. The tech was cool and didn't charge me the whole hour.

I hang out at forums but am learning some html and javascript before I go back to school for Information Technology. I have been dissed and bumped at other forums cause I get caught up in an interest and absorb so much I think the ones who originally started the site felt threatened. I still read the forums but do not post. I do help the newbies but through PMs. I'm glad I found out what AS was and understand more about peoples behavior and how fragile and spiteful they can be me included but thankfully I've grown out of it.

There is an abundance of things to do and study. Stay strong, your not alone.

Go get an inexpensive soldering iron, some old cards or motherboard and a drinking straw. Put power to the iron and rest it safely somewhere so it can get hot, then touch its tip to a spot of solder and use the straw already in your mouth to blow the molten solder away (while also pulling the iron away). The pros likely have more-sophisticated equipment, but that will at least begin to give you an idea as to how solder looks and acts while set and while wet.
