When buying a new car, do any of you go alone or you have to bring a parent or friend? My parents just bought brand news cars today and I went with them. The sales rep went over paperwork and such and I was so confused. I want to cry but I hid my tears. I must be a low life scum.  I don't like cars with the button you press to start or turn off car. I don't like navigation system either. Those things confuse me.

Typically the more poeple you go with the more you can hassle the seller into a better deal. Now dont look interested in what you are buying and just say things like "well thats nice i guess". Also do your research on how much people are buying the car for. Dont go and say "this guy bought his for 21 thousand so ill take it for that!" but rather find an average pricing and try to get as close to that as possible.

I hate haggling. It requires too much social finesse that many of us lack.

As much Id like to, I probably wouldn't able to go it alone in such a major purchase.

I don't mind cars with tech, but it does add to the price. A lot of this stuff you don't really need anyway.

haggling is as anti social as it gets. Its a game of chess and with the AS pokerface it should be easier if you remain calm and follow through with everything.

I don't buy new cars, even if I had the money I wouldn't. I know a guy who is right now and all he has to do is say "I'll take my business elsewhere" when the deal doesn't sound right and they'll start trying to work with him some more. He is trying to get a V6 Nissan Frontier for something like $16K right now with a $4K trade in, he said the MSRP is something like $4K and he's getting a end of the model year closeout or something.

So thankful I like simple early 90s cars which I can pick up for under $2000.

MSRP is the sticker price so for a 16k offer MSRP should be around 18-20k

No like I said he's got a 4K trade AND a model year end closeout sale. Only thing is the dealership that has the EXACT truck he wants is just over the state line so they want to either charge him as an out of state buyer or make him pay a ludicrous delivery fee to his local dealer. but he is getting it for $8K under MSRP if it goes through, don't try to act like you know his prospective car better than we do.

Well you didnt post that before. There shouldnt be an "out of state buyer fee", my dad bought his corvette in missouri but we live in florida yet they added no fees for that. He would have to pay taxes on it when he goes to register it on his state. I obviously dont know the whole story since you have posted one with more holes than swiss cheese.

I posted all the nessecary information. You just felt like you had to inflate your own ego by telling me I don't know the MSRP because my friend was getting it too cheap.

MSRP is usually the biggest number out there for the price of a car, because it stands for manufacturer suggested retail price. . Its the price you start haggling on so for you to say MSRP was 4 grand was way off. Your friend will be paying 4 grand but that is not MSRP. I am not inflating my ego. Im about as flimsy as balsa wood. I was just pointing out that you had probably made a mistake on your post and you lashed out on me. Just like people do in real life.

Typos happen, I mean 24K not 4K. You pulled the 18-20K out of your ass though.

I don't like any of that useless crap in a car, either. I like old ones where the greatest luxuries are power windows and locks, and maybe a cassette deck to put your mp3 adapter into. Mechanical controls and simple power switching offer much fewer points of potential failure. Unfortunately, 20 years from now, used cars are going to be the garbage that we have now. No more cool, simple ones.

Oh yeah, my old car does have a navigation system in it. It's a map in the console. Yeah, one of those old school ones that you have to pull over and unfold! AWESOME!

When I've bought cars, twice so far, I've taken my dad with me. I don't trust myself to give it a thorough going over while I'm drooling on it. :D

There are a few more luxurious features out there that I like more than electric windows and locks. Electric heated rear view mirrors for instance. Infinitely awesome in cold weather.

I'll give you that. Those are practical things. The point I'm trying to make is that nobody needs nonsense like pushing a button to start the car. Goddamn, it takes soooo much effort to turn a key! That button is not only completely useless, but it's also not new. The first cars ever to have electric starter motors used an ignition button. I also take a minute to figure out a trip before I get in the car, so I don't have to have a frickin computer built into the dashboard. If I need more clarification on the way, I have a perfectly useful road map in the console. Don't even get me started on the built-in TVs...

Sometimes I feel like I was born into the wrong time. I'm going to be an extra-cranky old geezer some day. ;)

It sounds to me more like you recognize how ridiculous the process can be. If you find buying a car that overwhelming, I think you have your head on straighter than the average person.

No I'd say this is the perfect time to buy a car. Nobody wants early 90s cars anymore. Some people are saying that 80s cars are appreciating in value (80s cars SUCK, at least prior to 85). Muscle cars are heavy and in a lot of cases half assed in areas such as weight distribution, suspension geometry, BRAKES and well...everything except cubic inches.

So really right now is a great time for minimalists like myself. A base model 92-95 Civic weighs under 2400lbs, has no AC, no power anything, etc.

As far as '80s design sports cars go, I like to say I pass everything but the gas station.

I still love it though. :D
