Very happy to be in the UK (from Alaska); I arrived late Friday (5 days ago). Only just this evening I established an email account but I yet have to get a bank account (!), mobile phone No., etc. Tomorrow I move into my desginated housing!

I must say, my University and science programme is lovely!! ! My PI is the best and this is so much better than what I've had - I am so fortunate!

But, at the moment, quite tired (?) in that this is a major transition and a new home. I understand eustress, which is stress related to a happy event, is real too. I feel all right but everything is novel. This is my post on the Wrong Planet since my transition.

I met this afternoon with one from National Autistic Society (NAS) and she's awesome. I almost cried from happiness/relief. I can reveal - - Apparently there is a University PhD student (like myself) who's an Aspie and NAS person thought she and I could meet soon! I'd be her friend, that is, if she'd like. I do not have a friend.

thats great that your back and posting again and that your university is nice!

Moving is very stressful and change is always hard, especially such a big move.

where abouts in the UK are you?

I hope you settle in soon and things go well for you!

Thank you all. I am in Glasgow Scotland.

A bit overwhelmed, as you might imagine, but all in all, quite well. I actually feel at-home, which is an inexplicable sense but nevertheless real. I'll feel a bit more settled tomorrow when I'm in my designated housing.

From Alaska I mailed myself 10 boxes and it's literally everything I now own as I sold/donated virtually everything else. I am awaiting those boxes which ought to arrive any day now. I'll be OK when I have my belongings and feel safer. Post-grad (doctoral) housing is actually pretty nice, and private :) My flat is en suite and in close walking distance from my University.

Thats great! I know a nice aspie lady who lives there called Corky but she posts on aspievillage rather than WP. The NAS groups are supposed to be quite active there so you should find there is quite a nice aspie community.

Hey, welcome back! Hope things go well and I'm glad you're pleased with your university/program.

BTW, I couldn't find anything on the ring design, so I emailed it to my Romanian teacher. I haven't heard back yet, but I'll let you know if he's able to find anything :)

Thank you again, all. I am all right, love my academic program. But today I only had procedural stuff, such as banking, housing related, etc. In private, I had a meltdown/panic attack - - I became geographically lost and just started crying hard and could not stop. Actually, right now I feel OK. I've been so busy. I do know that I need to take things sort-of easy....if you know what I mean. Due to my AS.

This is so peculiar. I moved into my permanent housing today (yay!) but just as I was leaving my temporary (6 days) place, two others came. They both seemed so nice and I showed them a map and gave them tea. Just so strange that NTs are so adept at making friends with each other! Almost breathtaking. Within minutes they were going downtown together and setting up their email accts. They are so chatty with each other and seem to know what each the other is thinking. I wish I had a friend but I'll meet another Aspie (maybe?) sometime via NAS.

Thanks Meow101 :) (re: ring) - OK if you cannot find any info; I have a 'mystery' ring 8)

Oh, CockneyRebel: For you, especially!! ! In Glasgow downtown I've watched quite a many double decker buses and I thought of you.

The Ol' Blighty actually likes people with Asperger Syndrome?! 8O Never would have guessed, although that might explain why my native Australia, where I was born and nominally bred, seems to hate people like us with a passion, or at least disdains us - we Australians usually also hate the United Kingdom with a passion (especially my mother, who ironically is half-English technically speaking as her own mother is descended from English stock the only Australian I know who doesn't seem to inherently despise Britain or at least feign that is a female friend who had a relatively happy time of her childhood there, but though she was half-Norwegian, her father was technically a British subject, even if she was born in New South Wales, so even if she views herself Australian, technically she might not count - as for myself, however, I am neutral and wish to reserve judgment either way).

LabPet, if I had have known anything about the United Kingdom being tolerant for people with Asperger Syndrome, I'd probably have nagged my father to send me there on that basis years ago! Having said that, I am hopefully going to get my Australian passport renewed soon...

Too bad I'm an Australian, and thus would be deemed an "inferior colonial" by the English at least - never mind that I actually feel closer in some way to Britain than Australia, if only I have had better dealings with some of them and their immediate descendants than my own people, and even if only the others of my kin, at least here in Gippsland by and large, tend to come across to me as obnoxious.

Never mind that the Australian dollar does NOT convert to British pound sterling very well AT ALL...

*limps away clutching his pants' left cheek where the hip pocket nerve is screaming in agony at the thought of going to the UK*

The euro tends to be kinder to Aussies than the British pound sterling though (if only just, considering stuff can be very expensive for the average Aussie in the EU as well - if you wonder why most Australians usually tend to stick to either South-East Asia, Indonesia in particular, in any overseas travelling, there's your answer). Being a fourth-generation Australian royally sucks, especially in trying to go to Europe for any length of time instead of the USA (yuck!) or Asia. Even though you look at least a bit like the locals you have less chance of getting in than a North African Muslim migrant on a leaky boat...

Ehm...sorry, got carried away. Good luck with the UK, LabPet. I'd join you, but my passport isn't ready, nor is my wallet for that matter...:(
