Freaked out (issues on the job)
I've had it. I'm seriously burnt-out.
We are going to be SERIOULY understaffed for the rest of the week. As it is, I'm at my breaking point. I'm having panic attacks thinking of the call volume I will face. I feel powerless and depressed. I visualize myself being pummeled with calls while customer complain that I've blown them off (can't keep up with the call volume).
I think I'm going to have a major meltdown at work. It may cost my my job. I'm freaking out.
My recommendation is to go at your regular pace, don't try to rush things, and just stay calm. If you're not going fast enough, they still probably won't fire you since they are understaffed (don't take that as a guarantee though, you know your bosses better than I do obviously).
If a customer gets really angry, just shrug it off. You're going to be off the phone and not talking to them ever again in a few minutes anyways, right? Otherwise, ask if they would like to speak to a supervisor...most will say no. The few that do, make sure they stay on hold for a while before they get through .
Hopefully this has been of some help. This isn't necessarily the right way to do things, but this is how I would handle your situation.
I agree with trapped.
just do the best you can.
but if people get irate about having to wait longer, you could maybe give them another number to ring, ie the number of the person responsible for the short staffing situation. It really isn't that hard to get call centre temps.
Or you could have occasional phone trouble. Ie the phone could suddenly just cut out when you are in the middle of your sentence. The way it works is you say your nice grovelling "I agree with you, sir, it's just terrible, you shou*click the tricky thing is coordinating your finger with the hang up button.
I haven't had to do it at work but it does help nicely with irate people who call you at home. If they call back you just say you're having phone trouble. I'd call having way too much work to do on the phone - trouble.
hold in there u can make it just take it one day at a time ( I know lots easiers to say than do)
Will next week get better if not start looking for a back up plan.
"your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency responce on my part."
