I don't know what I'm meant to be, what I'm here in life for

Watching the Benjamin Button movie, I had the quote at the end stuck in my head:

Quote:
Some people were born to sit by a river. Some get struck by lightning. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people dance.

I tried to imagine myself in that scene. What was I born for? What was my place in this world? i couldn't answer.

I can't do house chores(can do dishes and laundry, but with difficulty), and my mom discriminates me because I'm not meant to do them. I haven't' made a single cent with any of my art & photography. I can't work in a group, nor getting a job. All I can say is, "Some are born without any purpose". And that's where I fit...

"Some get struck by lightning."

Oh, good. I had been wondering what my purpose in life was and now I see it was fulfilled over a decade ago when I was struck by lightning. I only wonder why I'm still here after fulfilling my purpose. Just killing time, I guess.

Having asked yourself the question is very good, but it does not make you able to hear the answer when it comes.

Follow your instincts, be curious, be relative, be skeptical, experiment. The answer will strike at the moment you expect the least.

Wow what a cool experience!

I'm here to breed then die, pay taxes to my masters, use up some planetary resources keeping my miserable existence humming along, and to serve as a bad example to others.

School - work - death is the usual purpose for most mice on the wheel

Helping and amusing others is probably the most noble purpose, and well remembered in time, more so than money or power is ever remembered.

Asking the question is the beginning of finding an answer. Happy hunting.

People only say, "he was born to xxx . . " in retrospect. That is, they say that after a person has done that thing for a long time and/or achieved recognition for talent in that area.

Meanwhile, all people cast about at different things.

Most people go to school, and go to work, in order to acquire knowledge and training and experience at some kind of job. If the job is ordinary, no one says anything. If the job is unusual, or the person is exceptional at it, someone may say something.

Meanwhile, you have to try lots of things to see what you are good at and find what things you want to do with your life

Oh, yeah. You should try it some time. (I think that was sarcasm.)

That Benjamin Button quote is nothing but fanciful short sighted nonsense.

You are here to find a genetically healthy mate, create strong offspring, raise your offspring to be competitive in the contest for winning a genetically strong mate.
Side quest: Increase resource acquisition capability for you and your descendants (ala Rothchild)

i strive to just 'be' and i don't think i have a certain purpose.

please know that by existing, you touch other people, and you deserve to exist whether you ever find any special reason or not. you're part of an interconnected web, and you need not have a special job or hobby to make you a worthwhile part of that. try not to let your family's judgements get to you, because although they may be more critical than supportive, your true worth does not hinge on whether you are doing a job.

It's like a lego set; you can make what's pictured on the box, a la Subotai's frighteningly narrow vision of what a life should be. Or, you can take the pieces and make something completely removed from the serving suggestion.

The only question is - which is more satisfying to you?

I'm just saying that's the root. Reducing things to their most basic animalistic form. Anything else is just chasing phantoms IMO

Isn't the higher self just a reflection of the subconscious lower self?

no. we can elevate ourselves above the lower self, just like we can rise above society's petty goals.
