and I'm depressed. My whole life has been a waste.

http://patricelewis.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... -2010.html

When EVERYBODY says that the world economy will collapse for good in the second half of 2010, you know they're right. What is there to do except give up and die? No food, no water, massive chaos with people slaughtering each other in the streets, and eventually nuclear war and the extinction of humanity, likely by 2012. With humanity becoming extinct, what's the point? Why was I born if only to knock around for 35 years and then die? It all seems so pointless. I really feel like killing myself. After all, I'm gonna be dead soon anyway, along with the rest of the planet.

I gave up on socoietyety a long time ago.
I did not die, because I webtb back to being
a little boy again. Not size-wise but things
are too hrad for me, there is too much in
life than I can process.

Not growing up.
Not getting married.
Not climbing the corperiet ladder.
Not driving a car, not even bouing one.

If I'm going to die, at least I will die
happy, playing in my playroom with all
my toys.

I tend to notice a positive correlation in the amount of extremists waiting for the world to end when social change is coming to pass.

I assume you're joking.

The world isn't going to end mate

If the economy collapses we're not screwed, the world isn't going to explode because money has become worthless, because some fat cat has to get off his arse and work to live instead of sitting around binging off a bank account it doesn't mean we're all doomed. We are still capable of going and getting food and water.

This is just a scare story, you'll see. Even if it's not I'd welcome the change. It means humanity has finally woken up.

Id welcome the end of the world. Id just have to make sure to get a good view of the disaster before it kills me XD

Would be interesting if the whole 2012 BS is just an awakening of a latent ability in some individuals kinda like shadowrun and stuff >_>

This is what my father said to me long ago, when as a little child I was frightened by stories of Armageddon and the apocalypse. He lived through the dust bowl in Oklahoma and the Great Depression, so he would know. But you know. . the world keeps going on and on. It is not like a little thing like humans mean much in the scheme of things, we just think we do.

So keep on keeping on. Nobody gets out of here alive. :D

World ends in 2012? BRING IT, Baby!! !

Yeah, supposedly the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 at some point. So either they stopped caring about keeping the calendar past that, or its the end of the world.

My understanding of the end of the world according to aboriginal Americans is that the end of one age happens with some great global catastrophe only to begin again anew. So IF the world ends in 2012, it's only the world as we know it today. I would NOT worry about it terribly much. If things change for the better, then it can't be so bad.

Social change or a zeroing out of the calendar. There were folks certain the world would end on 31 December, AD 999, on 31 December 1899, on 31 December 1999. The whole 2012 thing is another zeroing out of the calendar -- it just happens to be the Maya calendar. The day after 21 December 2012 is the beginning of the fourteenth b'ak'tun (after the five wayeb' days, that is): 13.0.0.0.0. The funny thing is, for all the hullabaloo, this date only appears on one stela, and then only as a way to temporally position the really important date, which was whatever the ruler depicted on the stela wanted to commemorate. They always calculated the date from the beginning of time, but for really important events the Maya would also calculate the number of days until the end of the calendar. The eleventh eleventh b'ak'tun is actually much more important than 2012, according to Dr. Matthew Looper (Cal State, Chico).

Let's see, each b'ak'tun is 144,000 days, and that's 11 X 11 b'ak'tuns after 11 August 3114 BC on the Gregorian Calendar. Any math whizzes want to calculate that date?

Edit: found an oopsie. Fixed it.

That would be kick ass . . . but scary given how many idiots would become super villains ><.

My predictions for 2012:
Dogs and cats will still get at each others throats
Pinky and the Brain will still try and take over the world . . . and fail horribly
Uwe Boll will keep failing at making a movie
It'll be another year of the Dragon
I'll turn 32 (and my love life will still be non-existant . . . or will it? >.>).
We can cheer because Obama will NOT likely be voted into office for a second term
WoW may be discontinued because there are no more enemies for Blizz to come up with.
Technology will still improve, but we're not going to have a colony on the moon yet (a few more decades perhaps)
. . . to be continued . . . or not :P

Yeah, well Id prolly end up being a well-intentioned extremist with th e abilities possibly. Even better, based on Shadowrun lore, id be among the first to get the abilities since I am of native american blood, Cherokee to be specific :D

Yeah WoW better end by then. and I predict that somehow technology will hit a dead-end in some respects. I will turn... 24 I think... Who knows about the whole leadership of america thing though, its too far ahead to tell. Maybe an independent will make it into office for once, but that is my own wishful-idealism right there. Humanity is too stupid to learn from the past :/

If the world comes to end, meh, no big deal.

Yes, I know I am a melodramatic person.

if the world ends it ends, if it doesnt it doesnt, the universe will still continue onwards until its probable Heat-Death type of event.

Every time I see this thread I get a little knot of excitement.

I hope it will end. But the more I hope the more likely it will continue.

What about a cold-death type of non-event?
i think it's more likely in the long-run

that is kinda what I meant, all the light and heat sources of the universe eventually just go away kind of thing.

Its either that, the big crunch or...just some physical constant/laws go extremeley out of whack, turning the laws of physics upside down.

As for a very interesting read on all of this sort of stuff, here is a site to reference and or take a look at.
