I think everyone does to extent, but I am not sure how much.

However, I made some dumb mistakes in life that ruined my "What could have/should have been?"

I guess some of it depends what happens after the "What could have/should have been?" time.

Oy vey. I am plagued by this a lot.

I'm learning to let go though. I don't hold grudges anymore, I just can't let go of the memories.

Sometimes I wish that machine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was real.

all of the time. I know it would kill me if I dwelled on it for more than a moment

Actually no, hardly ever.

Sounds like I'm more the exception than the rule though...

I think about it, but my "What could have/should have been?" have been largely ruined by things outside of my control, it means it's easier not to dwell on these things, although at the same time it makes it all the more tragic.

Thats rough.

It probably is a little easier since you could not control it, but still difficult.

Yes.

But dwelling on this sort of thing wastes people away. We are better off to concentrate on what it is than what it could have been.

I used to, but nowadays I try to focus on making positive changes to improve my life instead of focusing on what should have been. A favorite song lyric for me goes "there's no such thing as what might have been, that's a waste of time, drive you outa your mind". The point being what might have been isn't an option, you can't change the fact so you might as well do what you can for now.

Indeed. I can spend what feels like ages brooding...
But, yeah. I can learn from my mistakes, though. Sometimes I make downright embarrassing ones.
