When I say thinking different I am not talking about AS related.

I am referring to viewing things differently

For the longest time, I thought different meant something was wrong with me.

At 39, I know realize that most of the time everyone else is wrong.

Did anyone else go through this.

Too bad I discovered this so late.

For me I always thought that I just processed things differently than other people. Some things better some things not, but it all came out even in the wash. When I found out I had AS it just gave me an explanation of why I processed things differently than everyone else.

No one is wrong. We just see things different is all. But yeah it does seem everyone else is wrong and we're right but we have to remember everyone sees things different.

With me it now seems the case that other people might be more right than I'm letting on. It's an uncomfortable feeling, I'm afraid. :(

A lot of people will think or do things, because that's what everyone else does. It certainly does not mean they are in the right or even wrong. It's just what a lot of people do, usually to fit in, so if you do not do these things, it's some times easy to think that you are in the wrong.

I've come to the conclusion that there is no right or wrong. There are only moral codes people have.

I am glad that I have discovered this as well. People can say what they will about the way my mind works, the things that I do, but by no means will they interfere with my life in making me feel wrong, unless of coarse I do feel wrong myself.

Sometimes they are wrong.

All my life, I have tended to assume that anyone else's opinion was more valid than mine. If I thought a problem should be solved one way and another person thought it should be done a different way, I usually deferred to them. It's a lack of confidence on my part.

But in many of these situations, I would watch in frustration as the project went wrong. Once I finally demanded we do things my way, the problem got solved. Not that this happens every time. I make my share of mistakes. But in hind sight, I make good decisions more often than I let on. As I get older, I'm beginning to trust myself more and even speak up when I see the better answer. If someone else has a better answer i'll happily use that, but if I know what I'm doing, it seems like a good idea to do things my way.

It's not that anyone has a monopoly on good sense. It's just that we have to trust in ourselves and be willing to speak up for the quality of our own thinking.
