My b***h of a mother told me that there were no side effects. A quick Google search would beg to differ. For all I know, I'll be worse than before. The corporations, the doctors, the parents... they don't give a f**k. It's all a conspiracy.

I was already on Celexa for depression when I was bamboozled into taking Abilify because I was "lacking motivation". Abilify is a pure dud. And I eventually learned that a lack of motivation (the kind I was having) anyway was part of my aspie nature. I guess when I got diagnosed with depression and Asperger's at the same time I got confused. I realized (though my doctors didnt) that my depression was due to not knowing or realizing I had AS and the doctors were far too focused on treating my depression than my AS.

Sorry for my ranting. End.

I know a lot of people just can't tackle depression on their own and need such drugs to tip the balance; I didn't have the choice as my parents were poor which for me was a good thing.
I had severe depression issues for a long time but discovered that two things helped me to conquer depression without drugs:
1) Exercise creates the same brain chemicals but in a balanced an healthy way
- specifically doing something that gets me to my target heart rate range *for an hour a day*
( 220-<your age>) x .6 to ( 220-<your age>) x .8
example (I am 42): (220-42) x .6=178x.6=106.8
to (220-42) x .8=178x.8=142.4

2) Battle whatever it is that is making me depressed if I can, do something else positive if not possible. Any forward movement in any direction seemed to help me feel better like it was impossible to be depressed about one thing and happy about another.

I eventually had to accept that I would never be like other people. Only when I decided to be me no matter what and stop trying to be like anyone else was I able to start feeling better. When I didn't need other people's approval to get my own self worth I stopped being so depressed about how different I was. Once I got clear of high school and petty people everything got a lot better.

I had a name brand pill pushing doctor try and get me on Abilify. I looked it up online and said no way. I have been on one anti-depressant or another over the years. It was the first time I ever said no to one.

It really does take time to find the right one, if you need to be on a anti-depressant. I always give it two months minimum. But unfortunately they all have side effects. It's just a matter of finding one with benefits that out weigh the drawbacks.

Abilify had to extend their commercial to a minute long just to spend an extra 30 seconds to explain all the side effects.

Personally I tried it for a month and didn't get much results, it literally has some of the widest side effects of any medicene i've ever seen 8O Though I experienced none of them.

I've taken lexapro for 4 years and it's done wonders.
