Ok, I was reading on another forum about how supposedly the earth will be inundated by water for a few hundred years starting in 2012, and then there will be a "mega ice age" for a few THOUSAND years. This is a survivalist forum, and I sarcastically said "well, there's no way to survive that, so I might as well just kill myself" and they got all mad.
Some of these 2012 true believers are just nuts, they say we should build a shelter on the top of a mountain and lay in with 10 years of food and water. I mean, sheesh, really? All it does is to create fear, so they can sell you crap to "survive". What I'm REALLY worried about is food shortages in 2012 as all the "lasters" (cute word, it was invented by somebody on a survivalist forum) panic and buy up all the food in sight so they can "survive" the Mega Ice Age.
I mean, if I'm gonna die anyway, I might as well kill myself now, right? That's my first reaction to all the "OMG the sky is falling in 2012, we need to PREPARE!" stuff. Somebody was posting about the "Toba keyhole", when the human race was reduced to 12,000 people 24,000 years ago, and said we need to be prepared to be part of the next 12,000. Hell, I'd rather be dead.
When it comes down to it, I'd rather die if 2012 means that only 12,000 people out of a world population of 7 billion live. The odds of any one person being part of the 12,000 is vanishingly small. Stuff like a second Great Depression, I can live through. But the end of the world, and 12,000 people out of 7 billion living, is not something I care to stick around and see.
