i went to my doctor yesterday just to get him to officially say that i am aspergers, and i was there for a total of an hour for nothing...

first of, i went in with my mom (bad idea) and the whole time she's rambling on about stuff and not getting to the point. my doctor keeps cutting her off and is telling me useless knowlege about what people learned about ADD/ADHD 10 years ago and autism/aspergers nowadays.

then i find out that he actually cant diagnose me and i have to see a phycologyst and pay $2000 if i want an official diagnosos. no way.

and on top of that i was explaning to him an idea i have for managing another medical condition i have with my kidneys, and he just brushes me off. my idea wasnt irrational and i've had it long enough to know what the pro's and con's of what my idea would do to me are.

my mom was asking him about a prolem she's having with her liver and not absorbing iron properly, and all the ideas she had, he also brushed her off. and he scolded her for taking iron suppliments from a naturepath "because they dont work". and any suggestion either of us made about doing a liver and kidney cleanse he brushed off too!!

thank God for medical, because i WOULD NOT have paid for that appointment!

has anyone else had a simmilar issue with a doctor brushing you off like you dont know any better??? and has anyone ever talked to a doctor who is willing to try working with naturepathic remedies to help you? instead of pushing all kinds of pharmasutical drugs on you???

While I don't think your doctor should have simply brushed you off, I can understand his reluctance to address your interest in naturepathic remedies. I would hope he would have taken the opportunity to discuss the problems associated with alternative therapies; specifically things such as uncontrolled dosages, lack of efficacy, and the tendency of some people to diagnose themselves and then start medicating themselves will little understanding of the consequences.

A huge problem with alternative medicines is that the user might believe they have a useful effect and thus avoid using other, proven therapies. This happens all too often when people, looking for a cure for their cancer, reject things like chemotherapy and instead using alternative remedies. By the time they discover that the alternative remedy isn't working, their cancer has advanced enough that the therapy that would have worked a few months earlier is no longer effective.

There is also the problem of spending large amounts of money on something that has no effect.

While there are herbal remedies that have actual effects (St. John's Wort, for example) because the dosage is uncontrolled and the sources vary from batch to batch, it is hard to determine if it will actually help. In some instances it actually does more damage than good.

I can understand your frustration because you feel you are not getting proper care. It's a good idea to be well informed on the specifics of any medical condition you might have so that you can discuss it intelligently with your doctor, but the doctor isn't likely to feel inclined to discuss psudo-scientific medicine such as natureopathy.

The Mayo clinic web site has a lot of good starting information. You may also want to look at the Science Based Medicine site:

That's normal. GPs aren't trained to diagnose AS, especially in adults.
