Lately I've been under some stress. I keep reflecting on all the bad situations that I've gotten myself in (or that others have gotten me in), and I feel responsible for the mistakes that others make. Usually when I'm stressing I can just listen to some music and rock for a little while, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I have almost stopped eating altogether, and I have trouble quieting my mind at night. How do you guys stop obsessing over what you can't change?

First, don't stop eating. I know it's hard when you're stressed, but if you make yourself physically ill as well, then the stress will be compounded. I have found over the years that the only way to get through the stress is to create diversions. If the music isn't working anymore, try a new kind of music. Find some books on things that are interesting to you (although I find it hard to read when my mind keeps wandering). Go for a walk. Find something you like to do that doesn't let you just sit and think about your problems.

You are not responsible for anyone else's mistakes. You are only responsible for your own.

I go through phases of a week or so where this will happen and the way I get out of it is like the above poster said, force myself to find a distraction. Doesn't matter what, so long as it breaks the habit of worrying because it just gets worse, and you start to worry about worrying.

Films, exercise, tv, a book, a game or puzzle, eat something, sort something, anything really. Personally I like to try and learn a new guitar tune or play bejeweled or clean my flat, your experiences may vary.

Cleaning and rearranging things is a good idea. I like to do that while listening to music, then I feel like I'm organized again. It's sort of like starting over. Throw out the old and start fresh.

It sounds like a symptom of unhealthy anxiety.
Doing more stuff often helps these churning thoughts.

Also there are some herbal remedies that can help.
