I was depressed yesterday, which for me means suicidal thoughts and such. The weird thing is, I only got depressed after I ate a whole beef roast, "tri tip" style, about two pounds. I know that fast food makes me depressed, so I avoid it. But I've never had this reaction to good beef before. I have eaten MANY such roasts, and never got depressed from them. And even worse, it took me a LONG time to sleep it off. I'm fine now, but I wonder if some people on here might be depressed due to poor diet. I know that when I ate lots of fast food I was depressed all the time. These roasts are expensive-some $15+ each-and they're really meant to feed several people. I may just stick to strip steak. It's cheaper.

It's interesting you say this because I tend to get anxious after I've eaten certain things.

I get a depressive reaction from dairy products. And I get other weird neuro reactions from all sorts of other foods. I.e. coconut & macadeamia gives me that restless-legs-syndrome thing and makes it hard to think clearly.

I've often wondered if I have a leaky blood-brain-barrier or something.

Red meet (beef) in itself is very inflammatory. Plus all the antibiotics, hormones, arsenic etc. big agro companies feed to the cattle doesn't help.

I too feel worse after eating it too much.

Stick to white meet (the health food store kind that's antibiotic/hormone free) and wild caught fish.

Wild caught fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that have anti-inflammatory effect.
Also some fish are high in B vitamins which are essential for proper functioning of nervous system.

Avoid farm-raised fish (high PCB/pesticide contamination, high instance of sea lice contamination, excessive Omega-6 fat content (which is a nutrient that body needs but in moderation; when there's too much of it, it's inflammatory), reduced Omega-3 content, reduced overall nutritional value).

Also don't eat too often wild caught fish that's high in mercury (like tuna for example).

Eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains -- those a the pinnacle of wellbeing. Besides vitamins and minerals, certain veggies and fruits posses cancer-fighting, metabolism boosting, immune system enhancing, desease-suppressing, probiotic compounds.

Also certain spices have beneficial properties. For example saffron inhibits certain types of cancer, so does curcumin (they use it alone or in the curry spice mix), cinnamon promotes feeling of satiety, garlic is a powerful antioxidant...

I have always found personally that excessive levels of sugar and fat make me depressed. It makes sense because too many carbs will mess with serotonin and endorphin production. And too much fat leads to imbalances in the adrenaline/noradrenaline/dopamine triad.
