I've just read through the entire mood disorders section of the DSM IV. There can be no doubt any more.

well, you can try to get it officially diagnosed and get therapy/meds for it or let it be as it is.

I've been seeing different therapists all year, but they're confused about my diagnosis because of my Aspergers and also because I've been diagnosed with ADHD in the past.

ASDs and bipolar are found together fairly commonly. I have both and there are a few other people on this site who have both, though is their business if they want to identify themselves here.

Yes. I was diagnosed with AS first (11 years ago now actually) and then ADHD. I'm still uncertain about whether the "ADHD" was actually bipolar symptoms, due to my symptom pattern.

I have been completely incapacitated for almost a year now, mostly living with my parents and unable to study or work (when before I was living independently and studying full time). I've been experiencing a pattern of rapid swings between different mood states.

Why would you wish to have Bipolar? I am genuinely curious. Is it because you wish to be hypomanic/manic?

I have referred to it as "type 1" because I believe (after reading diagnostic criteria) what I have been experiencing this year has been a "mixed episode", which according to the DSM IV means a diagnosis of bipolar type 1.
