Okay...I'm not an Alcoholic and I never was, but I'm starting to live my life, according to that prayer.

Dear Lord,

Give me the strength to change what I can
And accept the things that I can't
And give me the wisdom
To be able to tell the difference.

I'll be grieving the demise of the Routemaster for the rest of my life. I've come to accept this, over the past three days. This is something that I can't change.

I can change my location. In fact, I might be moved into my Apartment by the end of this month.

I can't change my Past, no matter how much I want to.

I can change my weight by eating sensible portions and I can also change my Present and my Future.

Those are great insites.I am a recovering alcoholic and I found a lot of "philosophy" in AA which I thought would be useful to anyone.

My favorite is the idea of focusing on gratitude.I tend to think negatively and it is helpful for me to remember the simple things for which I am grateful....a bath when I want one and the right to refuse one when I dont feel like it.A warm blanket and ability to get out of the rain when it is wet outside.A good book and the time to read it.My cats......All these things that can go unnoticed unless you have had to live without them(I have).

I also like most of the twelve steps....who wouldnt benefit from thinking about the people you have hurt, apoligising when possible and then forgiving yourself for not being perfect and trying not to repeat them in the future.Seems simple, but how many people only focus on how people have hurt them. That is hardly going improve your mood or your growth as a person...IMO.Hope you keep learning about AA
There is some real wisdom there.

I am not an alcoholic either, nor have I ever been, but this poem has always caused me reflection. I frequently wonder what I could change in my life compared to what I am helpless to change.

I think we can all benefit from this line of thinking.
